Detailing - URGENT ADVICE

good point. I don't think I'm going to go for a respray...think it will be another 600quid or so (and have just spent that!). annoying that it doesn't look perfect, but not sure if i can justify a respray.

Eliot - Consider a Vinyl Wrap for the Bonnet ?? ... Cheaper than a respray and will "fill" in a years or so will you wait to spray later

how much would a vinyl wrap cost? would they be able to match my colour? where is good to get it done? cheers.

Eliot

I personally only know of one Detailer who does wraps- however there has to be more and also other places as well .. google may be a good start .. also ask here in the forums if any one has had their Box "wrapped"

The Detailer I know (he does my cars) is in Ascot .. message me if you want his details .. I have to say I've not seen the wraps he does so cant comment personally

Chips can often be fixed without a respray.

There are Chipsaway franchises if you want someone else to do it, or for the DIY route there is Langka, and (recently advertised in Porsche Post) Chipex.

Sorry to hear that you feel things didnt go your way.
Autofinesse are one of THE most respected detailers here in the UK. The work is good and priced according to the skills involved. I'd happily leave my car with them anyday of the week.
Sure, as another guy pointed out you could buy a polisher for £170 and have a bash yourself BUT its very easy to have a go and do a terrible job, then you have to pay anyway to sort out the mess.
The polish costs £30 upwards normally per bottle, pads are £15 each and then the real costs are the skill and amount of hours to do the job.
James will be very competant and wont want to do a bad or half arsed job as its not in his nature. He also wont want to work for free.
Often when you quote a car you see it dirty etc, and then once cleaned or you start to do the machine work it can become apparent that a re-think is needed. You both did speak and worked through that.
Its not uncommon for a Porsche to take 20+ hrs to machine polish alone. Take whatever Autofinesse quoted you and work out the hourly rate. I bet you find its not a HUGE figure but on a par with the skills, cost of materials, being insured to have your car, to work on your car and time it will take them.
Of course as you have noticed, having the paint corrected will highlight stone ships etc, but its best to get these done after a detail as the touch up paint is often far softer than the original paint and as such is "whipped" out of the chips pretty sharpish, so you'd have felt annoyed about that too.
I'm glad its done now, and you're happy.
Best wishes
Tim
