Disappointing Sports Exhaust System

Awesome motor Alex BTW.................!!

I had a similar set up on my 3.2 TT, RJ. That operated a flap in the exhaust via a vacuum pipe. I remember disconnecting that for a good while and it seized in the open position. Easily sorted with some WD40, but it was easily accessible. No idea where the 911 flaps will be, so reconnecting often is certainly on the agenda.

Regards.

Barry.

On my x RS my mates always said how loud it was from outside but inside it never sounds as loud. Think it may also be due to the technical reason that you are driving away from the sound wave so in the car you will hear more of the resonance than the actual sound wave being pushed out.

Martin,

That sounds spot on.

I think Porsche maybe have configured the sports exhaust to cut out this resonance around 2-3k rpm, because if you disconnect the plug from the solenoid so the exhaust is 'live' all the time, you get a lounder resonant tone around 2-3k which I personally like.
Really sounds nice with the plug disconnected, but I am paranoid the flaps will stick up, so I have plugged it back on again!

Heard a TVR pulling out of our works car park yesterday and it sounded fantastic....different to the Porsche, but I am more than happy with the sports exhaust now.
