DMS and Cargraphic reviews needed

Fantastic Alex well done I really hope it adds to your enjoyment of the car. Initial impressions look good

Cargraphic quote 8,500 Euros for this powerkit on their web site do you mind me asking what Parr charged you as I am very interetested myself. You obviously think that it is worth paying the premium for the Cargraphic kit rather than just use the Parr remap which is £2k

Are you happy the clutch can handle the extra power?

I am asking Parr for a quote for the work you had done plus some new pads that will stand up to track work better. I would like to use the Pagid 29s but I am told they are very noisey with the ceramic discs. Is there somone I should talk to at Parr?

Hi Bob

You want Daniel at Parr as he does all the Cargraphic stuff.

Yes, the price of the powerkit is 8500 Euro for parts, converted into GBP then 4 hours labor. So as the pound has recently crashed agianst the Euro (since my original order) I would probably wait for a bit to see if it recovers a little.

The 'fast-road' align was £240 (+vat)

Apparently Parr have now done 3 CG powerkits with stock clutches, and nobody has come back for a replacement. I am planning on seeing how it goes. If I get any slipping then I will either get the Sachs stage 2 clutch or Parr's own kit with a light weight flywheel. This is something I am going to watch closely though.

Just as an aside, I noticed no drop in fuel economy on my 2 hour motorway drive home. Something else I am going to keep an eye on.

...I still can't get over how smooth the turbos feel/sound now!! I can't wait to go for another spin tomorrow [:)]

mmmmm [8D]

Alex,Did you have their exhaust tips fitted ? if so where's the pictures, unlike you to be holding them back [;)] [:D]

The alignment is certainly of interest to me.. [8|]

Stock tips - so no pics.

I use to prefer dual tips but I think 4 exhausts looks overkill on any car, so I have come to like the stock ones.

Sorry.

...oh and I need to find some dry corners before I pass full judgement on the new geometry.

Well I know its been a long time coming but......

I'm down at DMS next Tuesday for the final part of the tuning process. New turbos, Manifolds, ECU remap + some goodies from I brought back from the US, IPD Plenum and evo boost hoses.

I promise to do a full report after this upgrade.

PS : I've changed my middle sounding cargraphic silencers to the loud version (I guess I'm just a boy racer at heart)

I drove to Ipswich and back last weekend and I still can't get over how smooth the Turbos and acceleration are now!!

There is also hardly any lag "" other than when cruising in 6th at 2000 rpm and you then floor the throttle. Then there is still a few seconds wait. Other than that much more like a normally aspirated engine. Great when accelerating gently through a corner. No more turbo on/off switch.

The car just feels "˜tuned'. Not like it's had all that power forced upon it, it just feels more free!!

The exhaust sound is great too. Not brilliant 2500-3000rpm on the motorway as there is a bit of a drone. Nothing too intrusive, but if you hit 3000 and onwards you just get cruising silence. Sure, if you want to hear the good noises then they are readily available with some right foot action!

Fuel economy is about the same "" I averaged 27mpg averaging 60mph on my 300 mile round trip.

So overall I LOVE the powerkit. Frankly I think the engine is healthier now than it was before so I am definitely less stressed about the warranty issue. Plus RS-Tuning (via Cargraphic) is probably THE best tuner for Porsches along with Ruf (although Ruf doesn't actually race Porsches) so they really know what they are doing. Also the ECU is tuned for the exhaust + filter combination, so I know I have a tried and tested formula. Yes, certainly worth the extra money compared to the other packages out there (albeit a bad Euro exchange rate right now pushing up the price).

As for the Parr "˜fast-road' geometry alignment; definitely sharper more responsive steering. Definitely more stability and grip putting down all that power. The car somehow feels lighter!

I am desperate to get myself a "˜Performance Box' and do some videos and sound-bites. What with snow forecast for this weekend, it may be a little while though.

Whilst I would have loved to have gone down the same route as Alex a combination of a poor exchange rate and geographic location not matching work commitments made me go to DMS.

I have just had my car fitted wiith their exhaust and had the ECU remapped. So far I am very pleased as I now have the car I wanted in the first place. The car is more involving, assertive and responsive and sounds a whole lot better but is not loud. It can not be described as sterile and uninvolving now.

In their test of a similarly modified car GT Porsche magazine recorded 0-60 in 3.3 secs and 0-100 in 7.7 which is in genuine supercar territory. The car feels much more alive and accelerates with a vengence that has to be experienced to be believed. One way to describe it is the car accelerates in normal mode like it used to in sport and sport is up another level again. Breathtaking and I cant wait to get the car on a circuit to give it the full monty. Roll on Goodwood in May.

Whilst I would agree with Alex that Cargraphic is excellent I think DMS has a pretty good reputation as well. The work was done over 4 hours and I watched most of it being done. The guys did everything with enormous care and they are clearly enthusiasts who care about the cars they work on. I asked lots of questions and each one answered sensibly and with a lot of knowledge. Not in the same league as Cargraphic/RS perhaps but good value for money.

My insuarnce company charged me £143 for the privilige of having this extra power and the DMS bill was well under £4,500 including VAT

I am having all my brake pads changed just before the start of my track days to protect those expensive discs. I think Porsche has deliberatley used a soft compound in the standard pads that is brilliant for road use and protects the discs but cant take track use. I thought hard about using Pagid 29s but everyone says they are very noisey with PCCBs.

I am also having my OPC fit 17mmm spacers on the rear wheels which is a genuine porsche part. The DMS car had these and they make the rear wheels look great as they fill out the whel arches, Like Alex I dont want to lower my car but if I can make it to Parr one day I would like them to tune the alignment to get the benefits Alex describes in his post

Glad it worked out for you well Bob [:D]

Surprised about the insurance hike. I told NU about my powerkit and they told me zero increase! There only proviso was that it was a reputable and experienced Porsche garage - of which Parr was top of thier UK list on.

Turbo boost observations

Went out for a spin this evening (the car is SO much fun now!). Anyway, on the way back decided to test out the 'boost' values on the motorway.

So in 6th gear and normal mode, the boost goes straight to 1.0 bar when you put your foot down from about 2000rpm.

Same thing in Sport mode results in 1.2 bar every time (with over-boost arrow).

If you remember some of my threads before, I was only seeing 0.8 and 1.0 bar boost in Sport Off and On respectively (with brief glimpses of 0.9 and 1.1). Now the Turbos are so much smoother and get to 1.0 and 1.2 almost immediately after you call on them.

The acceleration I get now at 0.4 bar in Normal mode is about the same acceleration I got pre-powerkit in Sport Mode with full over-boost 1.1-1.2 bar. That's some quality tuning for you

This thing is a monster, and just with an air-filter, a free-flow exhaust and some serious know-how ECU tuning. Amazing
