RS Carpet chassis ending 062 seems to be the lowest known to anyone, despite research in Europe and here ... does anyone know of a lower number?

Any rumours that this is the actual "First" avalable RS could be put to bed if there is a lower verified claim .... over to you Anoraks[:)]

Phil -I'll raise you with 060......[:)] PS Like yer work -heh heh!![:D]

Martin - get in here and sort this one out....................................[:D]

Des, I think the retailers are only excited by high numbers ...usually with £ or € signs before them.

Er, 001 is a clubsport sans carpets (article in Porsche Scene Live) - so your saying the next 60 are also clubsports? Martin - definitely need some help on this one? Tony

Yes Tony adds more credance that the early "Basic"cars were either crash test dummies or test mules or indeed "Clubsport" although the M003 Clubsport have their own Chassis Numbers 96 NS 49 9001 - 290 although folklore has it that 292 were made and others say 150 .... popularity by race teams, nearly doubled the initial build allegedly. [8|] The truth is out there[:D]

Different number sequences. N-GTs are 99001-99280 or thereabouts and Lightweight/Tourings are 90001-92050. I was told a few years back (one night when I was abducted by lightweight aliens) that the first 50 chassis numbers were mainly shells and part-built cars used for testing etc. The majority or all were not complete cars. 0051-0060 were 'Special Issue' cars given to team drivers and the like and 0061 was the first car offered for sale to the general public. If this is actually true or not, I don't know for sure. My car is 0076 and has also had an interesting early history. Owners including the Porsche factory and German royalty! Sadly I find this all quite interesting, so if anybody knows of any ex-works drivers or collectors who have one of these cars stashed away, please get them to contact me. Any information gained will be closely guarded! Bring it on![:D] Martin

The really important cars were build in 1990 and carry the nos. LS40901 -50. Hakki and Colin B will back me up when I say these are the real collectors cars and the ones that are worth really serious money. What followed was a dilution of the L series and will always be less sought after! As evidence for the above I refer to the Porsche museum which owns one of these first Cup cars! What no. do they have Martin?

Thanks Martin for the sensible and very constructive reply which makes a lot of sense and indeed backed up by other people in Europe X 3. It would appear that chassis 061 was indeed the very first proper 964RS Basic, as you say the other cars (which have never appeared in nearly twenty years, particularly with a certain retailer) were various experimental or crashed cars .... The Factory did first own my car (Show Car?) and my next step is to contact the factory for any further info .... Does anyone have a factory contact please? The mystery remains were is 061? Do Porsche still own it, was it crashed written off, lying in a Museum? No one has ever seen or heard of it, in the circles I have been exploring, which technically until proven otherwise 062 is the first known 964RS Basic.

@sapex666, what number is mine? I didnt think of asking Mark at Malton its Sambamans and JackC old car.

Another carpet stripped out! Why don't you have a proper Clubbie chassis number?
