Does anyone have PSE on a Cayman

Pondering my options for a new 2.9 - can't afford much but the switchable Sports Exhaust is very tempting. Does anyone have this? What do you think?

PSE was not available for the early built Gen 2's and is not yet available for the after market.. I keep asking when but no one seems to know. My OPC has not yet taken delivery of a car with PSE but tells me it should be good. He would of course. You might try asking on the 997 site if anyone has compared the Gen 2 normal exhaust to the PSE and take a lead from there.

I seem to recall that a chap called Sharpe(?) had one on a Cayman a while ago, he didnt rate it when compared to one on a 996. Think he bought a 997 Cab. He posted his thoughts in Porsche Post. Have a Cayman myself, would love to hear one with PSE to see if its worth buying. Tried a Tubi setup which was bloody awfull in my opinion.

derek sharp did indeed have 2 caymans !!and then a 997 cab-he is awaiting aftermarket fit of PSE to that,so presume he thnks it will be better than the one on the cayman gen 1!!!

What was wrong with the very expensive Tubi option?[&o] Same question to Derek Re: PSE [:-]

ORIGINAL: slapshot I have the factory fitted Porsche Sports Exhaust on my '08 Cayman S. Here are sound clips of it in 'quiet' and 'open' modes. .WAV audio file of the PSE exhaust [link=http://www.well.ox.ac.uk/~tim/boxster/pse-off.wav]DE-ACTIVATED[/link] (2.2MB) .WAV audio file of the PSE exhaust [link=http://www.well.ox.ac.uk/~tim/boxster/pse-on.wav]ACTIVATED[/link] (2.8MB) I love it, but I'm thinking of changing it for a Borla catback exhaust (see [link=http://www.borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/2008/Porsche/Cayman/SStainless_Steel_Cat-Back_System_Aggressive/12653/).]http://www.borla.com/applications/lookup.aspx/2008/Porsche/Cayman/SStainless_Steel_Cat-Back_System_Aggressive/12653/).[/link] If anyone's interested in taking the PSE of my hands let me know!
Brilliant - many thanks for that - it sounds exactly what I'm after :)

Same question to Derek Re: PSE [:-] derek thought pse was hardly any improvement over standard exhaust(on cayman s).he should know-he`s had them on several porsches now!![:D] however always worth seeing for yourself first-I thought of getting a tubi-very glad i went along and had a drive of one first-although great fun I definately couldnt live with it for a long journey(without going deaf)

Obviously unlike the PSE on a 996 that blasted past me today sounding very "rude" [:D]

By the way Dyllan, your facts are incorrect. I am not awaiting aftermarket fit of PSE. My 997 PDK Cab has gone. The build date for my new 997 PDK Cab is this month. It will have PSE. I have heard it on another 997 and it sounds great. But you were correct about Cayman; hardly any difference. This was put down to the fact that it is a totally different exhaust to the 911. Mind you, it might be much better on a Cayman S Gen 2.

Tried the Tubi, had an awfull, head ache inducing resonance between 1800-3000 RPM, sounded OK over that but as I spend 90% of my time in that band I was glad to get rid of it. Sorry about the spelling Derek..........

That's been the problem with most after market boxes since day one back in 1996 starting with the Boxsters of course [;)] However one man out there knows a way around that boom period and basically is supplying a conversion to the standard boxes giving an end result very similar to the factory PSE but with more of a 996 tone and volume to it "The GT exhaust is an internally modified original 987 exhaust that is sold as an exchange program. We did the development for this exhaust and the modification is done in our workshop. The GT exhaust sounds pretty much like the PSE at the loudest setting, just a tad deeper and a bit louder. The procedure is simple: You get a GT exhaust and you have 3 weeks to return your original exhaust. The price for the GT exhaust is 390 Euro shipping and VAT included." The build date for my new 997 PDK Cab is this month derek!!!what are you doing??!!I cant keep up with you!!you must be porsches best customer[:D] what spec are you getting next? I love your live for today philosophy-very refreshing!!!

I wish I could afford 'everything'. I've got it down to: Cayman 2.9 Speed Yellow Manual gearbox Cayman S II wheels PSE Sport Chrono Standard seat with alcantra Speed yellow belts Floormats Rear wiper Aluminium dial surrounds Poverty spec eh? I'd really like to get the exterior aluminuim kit (aluminium look side and front vents) and the decorative lettering (CAYMAN - big-style down the sides!) but I expect these tequipment bits are very expensive :(

What does Sport Chrono give you with a manual gearbox and no PASM? Other than the daft clock? Is it really worth the money? Good call on the Speed Yellow/yellow seatbelts combination, though! A nice combination with the dark grey natural full leather interior...

I read that it gives a revised throttle-map. As you say - questionable value at 500 quid, and it may well get removed from my list to fund some exterior bling. Need to find prices for the Tecquipment bits - is there a catalogue with prices online anywhere? Not a massive fan of leather tbh, especially at Porsche prices. Wife has it in her Boxster and I think I prefer the alcantra Recaros in my current car.
