Been to see this tonight as I've been after an S2 for some time but only recently started looking seriously.

being sold by a trader who does not profess to be a porsche expert, it has all the stamps in the service book until 1985 predominantly JCT600 in Newcastle who supplied it, then the majority of stamps are Tony Greatorex a couple from Fuchs in Newark but since 2005 has been SORN. Only the last servicing bills from 1985 are present.
It has a PCGB sticker in the front window so at some point looks to have been owned by a member

The guy took me for a drive and it it pulled well, brakes seemed fine, engine sounded sweet and oil pressure strong, it looked an honest but not imaculate car.

The downside - it has had the nearside front wing replaced, bill to prove, there is some corrosion on the bottom edge of the drivers door and also bottom of the front wing although the sill seemed ok. Of bigger concern to me having swotted up would be unsure if belts have been replaced but having been SORN since 2005 suspect they might need doing again anyway to be safe and the fact that it hasn't been used for 3 years potential for seals etc to perish.

Any views or knowledge of the car gratefully received

Thanks
Ash

A lot of cars you've got there Ashley, when do you get time to drive them all?

Certainly for piece of mind you'd want to change the belts and give it a good service so budget that in. Additionally if it were me I'd change those wheels and put back on some nice original D90s. Other than that I think the Red/Grey combination is a really nice one, and good to see an original stereo meaning that there should, in theory be no butchered wiring behind the dash, although it's not too tricky to sort. Alarm or immobiliser fitted?

One final thing to check would be the condition of the lower arm balljoints, as having just replaced these on my similar vintage S2, they don't come cheap, even for recon ones. Any problem here will manifest itself as a knocking noise under acceleration, breaking and traversing potholes.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

If it's been sorn'd for three years probably budget for new tyres all round.

James is right, oil seals will have dried out, mine had after 18 months of low use - as in 900 miles in 18 months including coming back from South of France! Belts need doing 4 years at most, 3 years safer bet, so it would be pointless not to do a belts, tensioner, seals and waterpump service and then forget it for a few years.

Red with grey leather is nice! [:)]

Thanks for your feedback guys,

ebay auction closes in 5 hours or so and its now over ÂŁ3100 so not as cheap as I thought it might be, probably going to give this one a miss but several others I'm due to view in the next week or so.

Just a matter of when not if I join the 944 clan

[:D][:D] Good man, you know it makes sense. Keep me in the loop mate, I'll happily view any with you if you need a hand.

Cheers

"Outstanding condition FSH !"

Leaving the total lack of punctuation aside it's neither in outstanding condition nor has FSH from the description in the first post. And the wheels are awful. And it's red. Good decision to keep looking.

FWIW while I agree it would need belts (I guess unless they were done not long before it was laid up, though I'd still change them personally) that isn't a reason for concern (getting it to someone to change them aside), but corrosion in the door is. 944s tend to go in the sills and only in the doors if quite nasty examples. Barge pole example IMHO.

agreed and unsurprisingly relisted!!![:'(]

Good news however is that I've found a car and will be picking it up tomorrow, pics to follow.

a little too rich for me that one, lovely as it is.
Had a devil of a job justifying it to swmbo in the first place, all will be revealed on Saturday by when I'll have taken some photos[;)]

hectic weekend meant I haven't had chance to do the photos yet,

Nick's been over and given it the seal of approval, got say quite pleased with the way she drives, needs a bit of tlc on the paintwork, stone chips in the main but the all important sills are ok in the meantime here's a taster

I was a bit confused by the claim it has air conditioning though!

Have you any idea how many people think they have air because of the temperature-calibrated heating? I wonder how many times some have been charged for a re-gas.....[]

Car looks stunning. The seller is right to point out that an S2 will be better for having trundled up and down the motorway regularly at our speeds!

ORIGINAL: ashley

defo got air con, nice and chilled on the way back from Edinburgh[;)]

Not with that ventilation control panel you shouldn't! There should be an on/off button for the A/C, where the recirc button is on yours.

Unless it's just on permanently......[:D]

got me confused now then,

there is an air con button (on/off) just a bit further to the right of the recirculation switch just out of shot in the 9th picture on the pistonheads link, I've seen an original sales brochure and its exactly where it should be.
