Dont buy a cayenne

The title of this post is the answer i seem to get everywhere i go. I am seriously looking for a Cayenne V6 or V8 (not decided yet), and everyone i talk to, whether friend or foe, they all say dont buy one of those. The reasons vary from, its a poseurs car to their crap, to the Toaureg is much better.
Has anyone esle experienced this?
Do they have a point?

wasn't impressed by the V6. and have to admit the toerag (sorry i mean Toaureg) is prettier. but the V8 is awsome to drive. unlike any other large 4x4 i've ever driven it has no body roll at all infact it drives just like any other modern Porsche...if you don't beleive me then take it on a track [8D][8D]

Wait for the diesel............300BHP Audi V8 unit coming soon now we are talking....will be the finest ever 4X4 by far.......watch this space............

I have driven a Cayenne on track, and had it sideways and sliding.
It handles very well - just like a front engined sports car.
I was amazed.
Whilst I have not driven all that many 4x4 fours, it is not at all what I expected.
It is very predictable and very good fun.
The styling is not to everyones taste.
Off road it is pretty good as well, as long as you fit suitable tyres.

V6 lacks a bit of acceleration, but the balance is very good.
V8 is pretty good.
V8 Turbo is a good 2nd hand buy.

My advice would be to ignore other people - drive it and form your own opinion.
If you like it, then that is what is important - it's your money.

I don't think they are crap - they may be a bit poseurish, but you can select a discrete colour - the Toerag is only better if you like carcinogenic diesel particles and want the maximum amount of metal for your money.

I just spent a day playing with a V6 and have to say its a fine car .. its a replacement for a Audi A6 2.7 T Quattro Avant ..

Re waiting for the Audi Q7 ... one of the biggest -ve's in that is you will have to deal with Audi Sales and Service ..I have had four A6 Quattros and at the same time four Boxsters .. Experiance of the two Marques people and service are as different as Chalk and Cheese ... My Audi dealer knows my interest was the S6 due in May next year .. their response is to "put me on the mailing list" ... Porsche took me on a day of off road with a V6 and let me take it home for another day ... The V6 cayenne even loaded will be a lot less than the S6 so no one can say its a price thing .. I'm going with the Cayenne

Thanks for all those comments, i have driven the V6 last week, and was fairly impressed, i thought i would start at the bottom and work my way up. If i was happy with the V6 then there would be no reason to have the V8.
However with peak power at 6000rpm, you have to wind it up to get it going, and it was a bit noisy. Which is not what i am buying it for. So a test drive in a V8 it will be, and then try and find one for my budget. I quite fancy a green one but they seem to be quite rare second hand, plus no privacy glass for me!!! So my choice is fairly limited as 9 out of ten have privacy glass. Keep looking.

My only experience was on-track.
From this my advice is to go for the active-suspension. It transformed the Cayenne for me.
(Tried a V8 with springs, and a Turbo with Active Suspension)

Key words "not what I am buying it for" ... your right to say that .. look at the feedback both + ve and -ve from teh forum and then make your mind up for what you want ...

I am lucky enought to have a 987 BoxsterS as well so if I want to "have fun blattinga round B roads" I can use that .. the Cayenne will be the commute to work M4 in morning (lucky to hit 50mph [] ), weekend shopping and geocaching wagon .. so the V6 will do for me ... However I can see why some people would prefer the S

I have had quite a few 4x4s including Range Rover, Land Cruiser Amazon,Mercedes MLs (3) and recently the latest shape ML 500.I have just Traded the ML500 for a Cayenne S and I am really pleased with it in all aspects.

Just after the launch of the ML, the dealers have started discounting the ML500 by £3,000 and this has hit me quite hard when I Traded it. Porsche on the other hand do not discount and this should help with the residual values.

Regarding the' Looks' of the Cayenne, I tend to think it is rather atractive in a Barbera Striesland sort of way. It may have an unusual nose, but nevertheless it is quite pretty ![:)]

Like he's a huge fan of most Porsches Des! This is the chap who swaps his Ferrari for a Mercedes 'Executive Hairdressers' car, definitely a chap to listen to[8|]

James, buy the V8 - Cayenne is not like any other 4x4, its a sports saloon with hiking boots on and the noise of the V8 is nearly as adictive as RS on song!

I think JC is going through a big sexuality crisis Ferrari/Mercedes/Ford I don't know which way he will go next.........

James,

I thought the car was funny looking but couldnt wipe smile of my face once I test drove it..

I realy would stay away from the V6 I used a full tank pottering around Birmingham and driving to Blackpool no more than 150 miles (7MPG), you really have to screw it if you want to give it some..

Spring Vs Air I prefered the feel of the springs but the Air makes the car look better because of smaller gap between wheel and arch, Took mine around the ring and it was great fun..

and I am pretty sure that there isnt going to be Gemballa TDi
