Douglas Valley Breakers

Does anybody have any experience of Douglas Valley Breakers? I have some spare time in January and I'm thinking of taking the long trek up there in the S2 to buy some parts, which while not essential, will make the car feel and look a bit nicer.

Presumably, it's like other places where key items are removed from the car (lights, starter motors etc) and bits of trim and major components are left in situ?

Unless of course anyone in the south east is breaking a car with the classic grey interior where there are no signs of a car phone installation. Or has a complete lower windscreen plastic cover that goes over the ventilation fan?

Cheers

James

I've only used them once and wouldn't ever again.

Bought a front wing that they assured me was solid and rust free - it turned up with the bottom all crusty and brown.

My one and only experience was positive (they sent a part I didn't actually need and refunded me on it when I realsied that), but most people don't like them and I haven't used them since 1996.

I'd assume they have the key parts racked in a warehouse, but I don't believe they will let you at the cars regardless. I don't blame you for wanting to see an interior before you commit though.

Was it you on TIPEC who was looking for someone to eyeball a grey interior in Guildford?

Get a fave search going on eBay and be patient. It's how I got my newish mint black dash with absolutely no alarm, immobiliser and/or phone kits holes in it. Mind you I had to be quick and offered the guy cash up front for him to sell to me early, he took lot's of photos on my request which made the buying decision even easier. He packaged it well and I had it the next day!

I've never used Douglas Valley and I've also heard poor things about them through the internet grapevine. Which is probably why I've never used them. Sad but true.

I wouldnt entertain them. They seem to think that it is 1994 still, going on their prices. If it was 1994, at least you could get a sensible price by dealing with Jason.....

Fen, It wasn't but since I live in Guildford I am more than happy to look at an interior for somebody. I'll check over there in a minute.

Black_JPN, thanks for the tip, I've only seen classic grey stuff turn up once and I lost out on that one. []

I think it was on eBay and it was a couple of weeks ago at least. Might be worth following up though.

Had I looked under you avatar I'd have been able to guess it wasn't you I guess [:(]

Douglas Valley seem to be getting an awful reputation over all the forums. There are other breakers.

Seems they are both expensive and useless. Not a good business plan.... [&:] Hopefully they will listen to all the criticism and learn, as they seem to be buying up every damaged Porsche out there at the moment!

I can only say as I find , when I used them in July for a new wing they where great, the wing was great, well packed and they even sent photos of it off the car before they sent it to me.

I can't fault them.

Have you tried Simon at Porsch-Apart? He breaks loads of cars too and has a wharehouse full of spares for most models.

I would second that, if you were planning a trip up north, then a tour around Simon's Alladin's cave is always good fun!

Not as cheap as he once was, mind you...

I once called in at Douglas Valley, as I was passing nearby and wanted a new wing. The cars are all stacked up, many at a high level, so it is often impossible to inspect.

I've heard good things about Porsche-a-Part

Thanks guys, I will try both perhaps and report back. As Paul said, Douglas Valley do seem to be buying up every crashed Porsche under the sun, but maybe they just have a bigger marketing team to swoop down onto Pistonheads every day or two?

Hi,
Try P H Sportscars in Shadlow, Derby they break, repair and service all Porsches, mainly 944 when I had one used them for a second hand ECU for my 1987 944 Turbo no problems.

1994 993 Carrera 2 Polar Silver

I wouldn't ever buy anything off Douglas Valley again. I bought a 944 Lux engine from them that turned out to be the wrong engine. It was also sold as a good low mileage 1988 engine and when inspected it had over 150k miles on it and blew smoke and from a 1986 car!! When I asked for a refund because it was the wrong engine they basically refused to return any off my calls and when I did get to talk to the boss he just insulted me down the phone (if he had talked to me the same in person I would of inserted the engine up his arse). I only went to them in the 1st place as they advertise as having over 20 years of experience with Porsche cars. So paid the £200 over the normal price thinking I was getting a better service but in my experience they are not interested in customer service and just want to take your money.
At the time I was going to take them to a small claims court as they had cost me over £1000 by the time the car was fixed and about 50hrs of my time. But I was working abroad and had no time then, maybe I will look into it again as I have more time now.
