Douglas Valley Breakers

A few years back the garage I was using sourced what was supposed to be a superb Lux gearbox from PH Sportscars for me (aledgedly taken from one of their own cars, so we had a personal assurance it was excellent), it took longer to turn up than promised, cost over £600 and was unuseable. They did take it back, but it wasted labour and caused a lot of hassle.

I have had nothing but excellent service from Porschapart over the years, and Simon Davidson (formerly ESS and now SAR Classics), plus there are some ebay breakers who have been good, although watch out for a seller called carsolutions123, in my opinion he's a crook.

Another vote for Simon B, though I must qualify that by stating he's a mate of my indie (who puts him up when Simon is racing in Devon) and I tend to get any parts through him which is a trade / mates' rates pricing arrangement I suspect.

There's quite a lot of really good information on this thread ... is it worth making a list of 'recommended breakers' and making it sticky? Knowing things such as Peter said about dodgy eBayers is very useful. Or would this breach some name-and-shame rules?

Oli.

I have used PH Sportscars for over 15 years both to service the 2 x 944s I have owned over the period and for other spares. I recommend them. There was a problem about 6 months to a year or so ago but that problem has now left!

I wouldn't ever buy anything off Douglas Valley again. I bought a 944 Lux engine from them that turned out to be the wrong engine. It was also sold as a good low mileage 1988 engine and when inspected it had over 150k miles on it and blew smoke and from a 1986 car!! When I asked for a refund because it was the wrong engine they basically refused to return any off my calls and when I did get to talk to the boss he just insulted me down the phone (if he had talked to me the same in person I would of inserted the engine up his arse). I only went to them in the 1st place as they advertise as having over 20 years of experience with Porsche cars. So paid the £200 over the normal price thinking I was getting a better service but in my experience they are not interested in customer service and just want to take your money.
At the time I was going to take them to a small claims court as they had cost me over £1000 by the time the car was fixed and about 50hrs of my time. But I was working abroad and had no time then, maybe I will look into it again as I have more time now.

I have had dealings with them and mirror the above comments.. The Boss is a &&^%$ and was working with a VW tec on a motor that was shipped from them.. it was JUNK they didn't want to know. Other parts arrived wrong or damaged. Then as for the prices they are even worse a few times it's been the same money as genuine!!

So I have not used them for 10 years plus.. wouldn't use them if they were the last in the UK.. I would buy from Euroland or America where I do anyway..better service. Porsche A part are good I use them from time to time..

DV will always get good money from the cars because they make their money from Storage to the insurance company as soon as they stop that DV are trouble. Last time I had any proof most places charge £6 a day to store a car until it's cleared say you have 900 cars in storage for the insurance company until all issues are sorted..that's £5400 a day £37800 a week!!!! who needs to sell parts!! they don't

I have used Douglas Valley a fair few times over the past ten years and have never had any problems and would recommend them (and not just for 944's)

one of my old cars was being broken there last year (a 944 T cab in red,) which had some good bits on it before it got flooded in the rain....

One of my old cars is being broken there just now (subsequent owner in non-fault accident) and it has lost 40,000 miles since I sold it last year. I'm not saying they clocked it but as I don't know, but somebody has.

I've not had any issues with DV but have found Porsche-Apart to be very good on every occasion I have dealt with them. The only time they let me down was when they physically didn't have the part; but then I was looking at the more exotic end of the spectrum.

I always check the prices at Douglas Valley and Porsch-Apart before I buy as each can be cheaper depending on the item.

I've not had a problem with Douglas Valley but then I've not bought the kind of things you could have a problem with, they've also let me crawl over the cars they have in stock on a couple of occasions and let me point out the bits I want to buy.

Porsch Apart were very good when I had a problem with some wheels I bought from them - one of them was buckled and they replaced it without quibble also providing me with another wheel (not refurbished) to get me by in the meantime.
