Dreadful wind noise at 75 mph+

ORIGINAL: London987

i'm pretty sure that the ferrari turned out to have a bent wiper arm

He thought it was, then he taped them down, but the noise persisted, then they broke off I think [:D]. The noise was still there so they ruled that out. I remember being gutted when they did not find the resolution by the end of the show!

how annoying for you. i had a similar thing on a bmw once - turned out the mirror casing was just a little out of line with the innards. a little bit of clear sealent sorted it until i got round to changing it (thanks to a land rover smacking it off). i get a slight whistle at speeds now in the 987 so sympathise, but i think mine is a different issue...again from the wing mirror but not bad enough to be as intrusive.

The trim that surrounds the windsceen might be loose - it came loose on my car - it's purely cosmetic and glued in (but if the screen's been replaced they might not have used much glue because it makes it more difficult to get it out in future).  The noise could be the trim lifting at high speed.

Finally got around to looking at this, and you are right, the trim is not stuck down in some places, and I can imagine (hope!) that that could produce the noise.

Is this something I can do myself, and if so what with glue-wise?

I guess I would worry about getting it even, and any overspill on the glue.

Cheers

My Boxster/convertible experienceis:

Blasting around or A / B roads/town driving when not raining at any tyime of year, keep the roof down.

Extended runs on Dual carrriageways/ Motorways/ Autobhans/ Autoroutes cruising at anything above 70mph roof up. Even in summer that's why Porsche gives us A/C... oh and to clear the windows in the winter!!

Any convertible/open car that does not suffer any sort of wind buffeting/loud noises due to airflow etc at speeds above 60mph or above will be remarkable.

If you can't hack it get a coupe/hardtop!

I get the noise mainly with the roof up! With the roof down the air noise masks it to a degree.

...and it really is a 'wrong' noise, not just a bit of buffetting, hoping the trim issue above will solve it.

Cheers though.
