Dreams do come true! (new member)

Hello

I’d like to introduce myself as a new member based in Edinburgh Scotland.

Heres a brief story of my journey into ownership.

I’ve been a massive fan of Porsche’s since about the age of 8, and it has always been my dream to own one, specifically a 911. I was obsessed with them as a youngster and I still am to this day! I had a poster of a red 930 flatnose on my wall, along with a 959, Ferrari F40, and Lamborghini Countach, but the Porsche’s were always my favourites, I also had numerous toy 911’s as I was growing up. I had my first experience of being in a 911 when I was about 14 years old and it was my Dads 1985 Turbo, I’ll never forget that day, the first time he put the foot down and I was pinned to my seat, and the perspective of the front wings flowing to the headlights from inside the car, such a distinctive look that I’d never appreciated until I was actually in one looking out the windscreen. The speed and sound of it blew me away and cemented my love and desire to own one even more.

Well after months of deliberating which model/ year to go for I finally took the plunge and bought a 991.1 Carrera for my 40th Birthday (I always said to myself I’d do it before I was 40!) I was so close to going for a 997.2 C4S, I actually had an appointment booked to go and look at one which had all the spec I wanted and I was sure I was going to buy it if it was as described. Budget wise the 991 was just out of reach for me at that moment but I thought I’ll have one last look to see if any others had been advertised and to my luck one had just been which I instantly fell in love with, so I pushed the boat out and upped my budget again and slapped a deposit on it straight away without even really thinking about it. For me the 991 is best looking 911 since the 993 so I had to own it! I’d waited a lifetime for this moment and within a couple of days I was driving back up the road from Reading in my boyhood dream car, I couldn't quite believe it.....

I’ve owned my 911 for just over a month now and I couldn’t be happier with my decision, she is absolutely minted for nearly a 5 year old car which is a testament to the previous owner who loved it so much he couldn’t watch me drive away in it! Its spec’ed up to the max with pretty much everything, PSE probably being my favourite upgrade, it sounds ridiculously good! And to think I thought I needed the Bose upgrade, with the sound of that engine and the exhaust gurgling and blipping away how wrong could I have been, there is no need for a stereo with PSE, that is the stereo :)

Even now I’m still taken back by how beautiful she looks and more importantly how she drives, the engineering of this car is nothing short of sensational, I always knew it was going to drive well but holy ****! The best car I’d owned previous to this was a BMW M3 (E46) and it felt like a toy compared to this, the grip and handling is phenomenal, it just goes where you point it with no real dramas. Yes it could do with a bit more torque in the lower rev range but once it gets over 5k revs it flies!! Its frightening to think how the turbo S must feel, which is the real dream but I’m going to enjoy this one first!

Very much looking forward to being part of this prestige club and meeting like minded enthusiasts.

All the best

Jay (Living the dream)

Really glad you've joined the club, especially as you've done it with what I know is a great car with a great spec in a great colour/wheel combination. I know that as when I looked at the pictures, I thought, I know that number plate as I was the second owner. I had it for 2 wonderful years & was my pride & joy which only went out in nice weather & then sold it in February 2016 to really nice guy who was upgrading from a 997. Anyway hope you enjoy the car as much as I did & although I'm down in Hampshire hope to meet up at some Porsche event.
All the best.
Paul.

Hi Jay,
Welcome to the club. It's a great story, a beautiful car and thanks for sharing.

I too had similar dreams as a kid. I had a Lamborghini Countach pinned to my wall for many years but it was always Porsches that were the real deal for me. I had to wait until last year, at the age of 48, when I could finally afford my first Porsche (a Boxster 987 S). That was quickly followed by a 997.1 C4S cab, which only last 9 weeks before trading in to reach my ultimate goal of a turbo. I'm now the proud owner of a 997.2 turbo cab and I haven't stopped grinning.

There's something about these cars that gets under your skin. I just couldn't imagine owning any other sports car. Maybe it's the meticulous German engineering (IMS and bore scoring aside!), or is it the looks and the quirky handling, or the sound? or maybe a combination of all those things. There's an understated beauty about these vehicles, which i never tire of.

Anyway, welcome, congratulations and enjoy the car.

Simon.

Congratulations! The car looks stunningly beautiful.

Is it a standard 991 or an S?

Not that it really matters as either cars are simply sooooooooo good.[:D]

Congratulations Jay! Your car looks great and there is no doubt you will enjoy every journey in her! I also have wanted a 911 since I had a ride in a SC Targa in the late '70s. I bought a Boxster GTS as my first Porsche, a wonderful car but it still left me wanting a 911, so at last now in retirement I am waiting for a new GTS Coupe to arrive. Very excited.

Lovely Jay :)

Stunning Porsche

Great write up and welcome [:D]

I had the same dream come true when I collected my 997.2 CS4 last week :)

Hi Paul

What a coincidence that you owned my car previous to me, I must admit its very reassuring to know it was a PCGB member that owned it at some point, and makes total sense why the car is still in such good condition, you really can tell its been loved and properly cared for. I agree the colour and wheel combination is beautiful, and was the perfect combination/ match for me along with all the upgrades. I'm sure it will bring me many years joy. Be great to meet at some events in the future Paul.

Cheers

Jay

Hi Simon

Thank you for your warm welcome and kind words.

Chuffed for you also that you're living the boyhood dream now too, and what a journey its been for you in such a small space of time to own 3 Porsches! and what a car to end up with!!! I can't stop grinning myself which can be quite embarrassing sometimes when you spot people looking at you in your car with a big cheesezer. Totally agree with you about them getting under your skin, they are such beautiful iconic cars in every way and I couldn't see myself in any other sports car either. Its amazing how they appeal to such a broad spectrum of people of all ages, they really are the perfect sports car :)

Thanks very much Peter, its the standard Carrera, its crazy how good the base model of this car is, and very reassuring to know when I move up the ranks each one will be a new exciting experience.

Thanks very much Gorsh, yeah once you get a ride in these things thats it you really really want one!!! a GTS boxster is a great starting point but I understand you urge for the 911, I was considering a Cayman but the dream was always a 911 so I'm glad I went with what I did. Wow a new 911 GTS, I feel your excitement! that will be something special when that arrives and well worth the wait I'm sure, I think that might be my next car once I fully enjoy this one first of course :)
