Dreams do come true! (new member)

Amazing looking car. If I didn't force myself, every car I would own would be black...
If you haven't already, might be worth reaching out to regional club members for some Porsche friendly touring up there in Scotland, to get some real feel of that cornering power. My most powerful car before a Porsche was a 335i BMW coupe, and frankly while that was nice, its like comparing the Premier League with the Championship, or Champagne with Blue Nun (maybe that's a bit harsh on Bimmers).

Thanks! totally agree on black such a lovely colour for cars, killer to keep clean though!! I'm doing a Porsche experience day at Silverstone, where I get to drive the standard 911, then the gt3, and then the gt3 RS so will learn a lot about the cornering power that day!!! Yeah BMW's don't really fit into the same league as much as I loved them, had a few!!!

I love black cars and really thought about getting my current Porsche in that colour. The problem is that I'm an obsessive amateur detailing freak and I'd be there every day searching the car for the slightest swirl mark. I have a black Skoda VRS estate as a family workhorse and I've given up trying to keep that clean. If I can get over this obsession then my next Porsche will definitely be black.

I feel your pain Simon, I'm like that too and its driving me crazy all the swirl marks, I'm so anal about cleaning it with all the right stuff, foam with ph neutralising foam so it doesn't wash wax off, then wash with a lambswool mitts, with a grit catcher in my bucket then dry it off with mircofiber towels then literally 2 hours later you can see all the dust/ pollen settling on it so annoying but looks beautiful for those 2 hours!! then I take it for a spin to blow off all the pollen and dust, the joys!

Ah, Jay, you have the same affliction as me! As a psychologist I should work out a new diagnosis for this (Post-Wash Swirl and Dust Trauma Disorder might do it). I know exactly what you mean. For about an hour or so after washing I just love staring at the car, but as soon as it goes on the road it's all over. I just try to remind myself of the fun of detailing and that sense of satisfaction to be had during that brief post-wash period. Then I can get on with enjoying driving the thing. I also find the GT silver is great at hiding all the marks - apart from the damned great scratch caused by a child's school bag on the day of purchase. I nearly wept!

I also bought myself a dual-action polisher, which I use occasionally before applying the Swissvax. Have you checked out the Car Cleaning Guru videos on YouTube? Compulsive viewing!

I must confess my guilt in this matter also.
As well as a garage full of a thousand products, I also have an "Air Blaster" air dryer, so after a full polish and wax treatment, the car can be rinsed, foamed, rinsed and blown dry for the full "touchless" wash.

Doctor.. I need your help

There's no helping you or any of us. We must live with our affliction! Before entering the world of Porsche ownership I'd never heard of detailing. I simply washed a car and that was that. I then bought a Boxster and before I knew it the addiction had begun. It all started with my first microfibre towel. Just one, I thought at the beginning. Then I'd buy another one, this time in another colour for the wheels, you understand. And then the wash mitts came. My first one was a simple affair from Amazon. Before I knew what was happening I'd be searching the internet for wash mitts made out of virgin hamster fur or the softest feathers from the rarest peacocks. Now, the damned car can never be clean enough. My poor, poor long-suffering family. My children are barely allowed to even look at the car, let alone squeeze in the back with muddy feet.

I even thought about buying a beaten up old Porsche to use often so I could wrap my beloved one up in the garage, but that's for another time and another confessional on the couch...

Haha, you guys are funny. Its very good to know I'm not the only one thats obsessed in this way. "Air Blaster" and "hamster fur mitts" I'll be searching for both of these to add to my cleaning regime :ROFLMAO:

I'd use the cat if I thought it'd stay still long enough to be dunked in the colour-coordinated bucket (with grit guard, naturally).

Cat's have claws dude....

I love my new Platinum Satin rims, however this is my first brush with satin/matte. Can't use rim wax!!! ArrrghhhH!!!!!

Edit: Autoglym's "Fast Glass" works very well however.. but...

That's a very good point. Detail, drive, post-drive maintenance wash, then bed. I'll start packing immediately...

Ha - we're certainly mining a rich seam here with obsessive cleaning. Like others I'd never even considered "two buckets" for a wash or grit guard until owning a Porsche. I am really surprised that Porsche haven't branded that "cair-o-port" yet and added a few hundred quid premium! This is how ridiculous the owning experience gets - I am seriously thinking of adding a carport to the garage so it can be washed under cover - as otherwise I'm dependent on the weather or a no water clean. The weekday car gets taken to a local hand car wash for £7 a pop. LOL.

Welcome to the madhouse Steve. I'd say we're leaning on an open door on a Porsche forum...

Do you have a filter for your rinse water? That's a good purchase (but best hidden from "you know who").
I'm fortunate enough to have a 10,000 litre rainwater system so I don't need one anymore, but it was a godsend!

Remember, Microfibres are not "expensive" they are "essentials" and the best response is "How much is that handbag you're hitting me with?"

I live in the shed btw....

I also take my second car to the local hand car wash but only costs me £5 :ROFLMAO:

Secretly I think we all probably enjoy giving our pride and joy the care and attention they deserve, theres no better feeling than feeling those curves as you wash her especially those wide hips! I really hope my girlfriend doesn't see this post......
