Driven At Last

Actually, the best heated seats (and my wife is an expert) have variable settings and you should actually feel the warmth through the backrest more than the bum area. This means that you don't have to dress at Millets to enjoy comfortable, roof down, motoring on cold days.

Regarding the medical benefits; can't comment on haemerroids, but if you've got a bad back, a cold or flu, or just feeling under the weather, some warmth around kidneys will sure make you feel better.

(I have my test drive next Monday, credit card at the ready)

[&o]Tony it's Wednesday 8th so did you part with any money?

Hmmm.

My "test drive" seems to have disappeared.
Was at the dealership last night with the club.
Introduced myself to the salesman who has taken over our 2-year-old letter of intent from the salesperson who has (now) left, and said "See you on Saturday for our test drive" (which we had booked at the launch).
He then said that we could not possibly have the test drive on a Saturday as they are far too busy.

We work. We live an hour and a half away from the dealership (that we had decided to order from because they do so much for the club).

"Well we can't let you have more than 20 min on a Saturday"... (Eventually he said 40 min...)

Err.... I'm not impressed (and not AT ALL happy)[]

Do they want our money? Doesn't look like it[&:]

Not had a chance to post results till today, from my adventure on Monday in the new 'S', so here they are:

Driving a 3.2 with 19" wheels, Sport Chrono Package, and the usual fancy stuff that they load onto a demo car to make it look 'really' good. First observation was that it looked well seasoned in shape. Nothing obviously out of proportion. Seats were firm and comfortable, I guess a general improvement from the ones I have in my MY02.

Suprisingly, from the passenger seat, even there is supposed to be more room (10mm so they say), it felt more enclosed. I think it's due to the more contoured dash and centre console, but I rarely sit that side. Still not sure about the air vents, but the rest was an improvement, built-in cd holders and cup holders.

From the drivers side, first pain in the neck, the ignition. Key in igntion, depress clutch, turn key to start engine. A small point I guess. Everything else in the cockpit was perfectly sound, although the speed readout was moved into the middle display, so I kept seeing what time it was when I came to a speed camera.

The amount of grip caught me off guard. The car was hurled round a roundabout, and even with the backend going light and starting to step out, the PSM never kicked in. So you must have to really crucify it before PSM is needed. Quite reasuring.
With sport mode turned on, the ride was noticably firmer and the engine picked up far quicker. I couldn't live with sport mode on and 19" wheels for very long on the public highway though. In fact although the 19" looked real good, that's about all it gives and I think i'd opt for the 18s to give a little softer ride. As i'm not going to be using it much on a track I don't see any point in getting the sport chrono pack.

Exhaust note is extremely nice, but I didn't have the opportunity to try the hood down through a tunnel (shame).

And the pies de resistance, the hood going up and down while the car is moving. Excellent!

So in a nutshell, SOLD

I have the spec pretty much all sorted out, but there is one big problem. Which colour? As soon as I have sorted that I'll be emailing my order through. I'm going to head to another dealer tomorrow in the hunt for an Atlas grey car. Saw one in Windemere in August which looked good, but need to see another to see if it's really what I want.

We've agreed a May build with a mid-late June delivery. That means my MY02 will be 2 years 11 months and 2 weeks old when I swap it(so no MOT - good planning).

Any help with colour?

From the drivers side, first pain in the neck, the ignition. Key in igntion, depress clutch, turn key to start engine.

Is there any other way to start it?

JCB..

Yes, the same process , but without having to press the clutch.

Key in ignition, turn key.

Starting it with the clutch depressed is what is recommended for the 986.

Are you saying that you actually have to depress it to start a 987?

JCB..

I believe it has been this way for a while in the USA (It's good practice anyway, but MAKING people do it is a bit much...)

I didn't know it was recommended on the 986, but yes you cannot start the 987 without depressing it. Apparently it's because of our friends in the USA. Something to do with them leaving cars in gear. So i'm told. It's a one solution fits all approach.

Further to my recent escapades in the new S, I managed to find a grey (Atlas) car today. Bit disappointed so i'm down to 2:

Guards Red (again)
Basalt Black.

From experience Basalt Black looks lovely when clean.......But it's a bugger to keep it looking that way [;)] !

I think dirt particles are magnetically attracted to it - especially the rear bumper. You might have thought you'd driven down a seemingly tidy road, but after looking at your car you'd be forgiven for thinking it must have been a farm track.

The other thing I've noticed is that you loose any contrast between the bodywork & the front and side grills - everything is black. Depends on your personal point of view I suppose - mind you at least on the 987 you'll get the nice silver looking rear grills [:D]

My wife ordered hers yesterday for April delivery. This will be our (her) fourth Boxster.

Went to Lovetts (Swindon). Not interested in a test drive. Top priorities were colours, seat comfort and audio.

Will have an exceptionally nice 986 'S' for sale shortly.

I don't really see it as an issue as it's a lot easier to select reverse with it depressed![&:]

May build + shipping from the Arctic Circle + UK transporter + OPC PDI = MOT fee!

Any help with colour?

Seal grey with black roof - it looks fabulous.
