Driver's door mirror

Don't you check you email, Paul?

I mailed a few days ago to say that, when I was cleaning the glass to post it, I noticed a small chip in the bottom left corner. It's about 6mm long and only 1mm or so wide on the very edge - I hadn't even noticed it before.

Anyhow, depending how fussy you are it may not be any use to you - I don't mind sending it but there is no point if you want a perfect one - let me know.

I have 2 but they're handed, not in fit but in the optics - the passenger side gives a wider angle image. I know you can swap them over because I had to swap them back the right way round on my cab [8|]

Anyway, if you want a passenger side one just mail me your address, otherwise I'll see if Paul still wants it and you can have it if he doesn't.

Doh [8|] I must get Jeff to sort my ID out, it's linked to an email that I dont use and don't check. My Yahoo one is always the best bet

Anyway, a small chip sounds fine compared to partially my defrosting one so I'd still be very grateful, and if thats okay I'll send you my old one Andy?

It looks perfect but the defroster only works half way across

Yeah, can do Paul, it'll be better than the cracked one [:D] Hmm, could I swap the defroster over off the one Fen is sending, or my old one - might have to have a look at that [8|]

I'll mail you my address

Cheers

Andy

It look to me as if the elements are built into the glass, but you may be able to do some mixing and matching. I'll forward mine on when I get Fens

Well, I spent this afternoon swapping teardrop mirrors between cars (see, there WAS a reason to get both in the same colour [;)]).

I had the same problem as Andy when I got to the cab's driver side mirror, so when the head of the screw rounded off I got my drill out, took a deep breath and drilled the head off. Luckily I got the rest out with a pair of mole grips and only a small amount of swearing.

I wanted to keep the wiring using the original plugs and in the end I elected to use the old motors as the colours matched (I never did get them to work in the Turbo with the different coloured wires because I broke it 4 days after fitting them and didn't have the heart to finish the job). To use the old motor meant getting the other half of the plug off and that was tricky. In the end I butchered it because I have spares. During this process I managed to embed a small flat screwdriver about 1/2" into my left thumb. After beeding for a while and rolling around on the couch like a baby while my wife cleaned it up (it did sting) I managed to finish the job on the driver's side. It was getting too late to start the other side by then though, so now I'm half original and half updated on both cars.

Once this is done that's it though... the Turbo is having its electric mirror option deleted, along with its rear wiper and electric windows and seats (and maybe sunroof eventually).

Just to say...........

I haven't fitted it yet [8|]

As soon as I get a bl00dy day off I shall do the swap. I'm hoping it will be this Tuesday, which is by coincidence the same day that I am picking up your strut brace Fen [:)]

Well, I worked from home last Monday so I took the opportunity to take a double lunch break and fit my other teardrop. They make quite a difference from the driver's seat, but less so on the cab with the quarterlight frame.

They give exactly the same view of behind as the elephant ear ones (contrary to what was being said on Titanic a couple of weeks ago) and in fact the glass is around 5mm longer on them. The air flow seems to draw more dirty water onto them at speed though and since the cab has the heaters on all the time it bakes on quickly and they looked filthy after a one-way trip to the office on Tuesday.

My thumb is also having a crack at healing but I managed to split it open turning the key in the front door on Thursday []

I'm looking forward to a report on the strut brace, especially after the report that the previous car was less harsh without it.
