Driving courses and handling

Friday 6th June preferred
April 22nd possible
May date clashes with Castle coombe PCGB track day already booked
July may be possible but may be away with family as School holidays
Lets see what the consensus is.
regards

Hi All

Thank you all for your input into this. With your comments I have decided to do a day course at Millbrook myself, almost certainly a day of advanced road and track with CAT. I spoke to Ivan at Total Car Control (TCC - see link above), who seemed really good as well and he confirmed that Millbrook is the place to go to rather than Prodrive - he uses both proving grounds. TCC charge a very similar amount to CAT by the way, although a bit more time spent at Millbrook than on the open road - not sure if that would be an advantage for me. I will do a bit more digging and see what suits best before I book it, although Colin Hoad at CAT comes with such a good reputation it seems hard to go anywhere else. If any of you have experience of TCC, please let me know.

Clive/ Thanks for sorting out the PCGB day but I must decline - however good the social aspect would be. I need a bit more help after 40 years of developing bad habits and if I went, I suspect I would just be booking a full day straight afterwards!

Good luck , it would be good to hear your feedback on the day on the forum if you do go in the near future.
--I hope we still have sufficient interest to arange a PCGB day

I could only do the July dates...
I hope the number stack up, I know quite a few 997 owners have done the day previously- but it's good with just the amount of interest shown just from the forum.

Sorry Clive but I think that unfortunately I shall also have to pass on this one as the dates offered don't quite work for me either.
Fortunately I have hill climb driving days booked at Shelsley Walsh, Loton Park and Prescott which should keep me entertained.
Kind regards,
Andy

If we are not able to organise a PCGB group, 911uk have an April 19 slot which I would join if we can't get our quorum.

Ralph,

I should do that because of the 7 showing initial interest, 2 have fallen by the wayside, 1 can't make it until late summer and 2 have failed to respond, which leaves just you and Tony, so not enough bods to justify a group booking! [:(]

Regards,

Clive.

Clive
Thanks for making enquiries
Ralph- I will PM you and we may be able to join up for the 911.com session ---unless someone wants to jump in quickly for April to make up numbers??,
Tony

Advertise it wider - perhaps in the Club Track Days section?

Clive, yes thanks for looking into Millbrook.....have just found out that Knockhill offer own car training, so regrettably will have to give Millbrook a miss this time, and will report back on Knockhilll ! Cheers, Alan

Although I won't be joining in, I do agree with Spiderman. I am pretty new to the club and forum but either I can't see for looking or there isn't an area which is used regularly to offer all PCGB members events like this. I suspect if it was promoted across all PCGB members you would get many more takers and it would happen. It seems everything is driven either through the type registers or regions and in effect everything seems to become a bit insular. Maybe club events is the place to post these types of potential events but there seems no way of starting a new post? This seems to me to be the missing link from the forum and the events which all type and region members might join in on.

Clive/ You have been on the forum for a long time and I am acting a bit like a new boy but has this been tried before to broaden the invitation across PCGB to events like this?

Stefan,

The Club is organised into Registers and Regions and these are run by ordinary club members like yourself, who volunteer their time. But there's nothing to stop other members getting together and sorting out a training session for themselves, if they wish.

I've no interest in such an activity myself, but following your post, I thought we might try to get a group together within 997 Register. However, clearly there's insufficient interest to make this viable.

But that's not to say someone else can't take up the challenge, widen the net and get something going. I would be happy to pass on the contact details and good luck to anyone who wants to try. [;)]

Regards,

Clive.

Hi Clive

Thank's for the explanation. Is there a mechanism for offering an event to the whole PCGB membership if we can't get enough interest in the 997 register or in our own region? Is the only way to post the same thread on every region and register - or is there a simpler way? Please let me know so I can do this if need be in the future. Many thanks again.

Please don't do that! The best place would probably be the "General Discussion Area" forum

Whilst some comments seem like its a closed book, the post is open to all on the forum- even non members to view.[&:]
I'd like to think that the majority of club members know the 997 register is an active register with plenty of things going on- things like the potential driving day. We've had them before with over 20 cars attending.
Only a few events are closed to non 997 owners and that is usually at the request of the show organiser that have actually specifically invited the 997 Register to attend.
The fact that Spyderman posted the comment proves that others read this area. [;)]

As Clive says, if someone is willing to volunteer to step forward and organise it, then they can post where ever they feel catches the attention of members most interested in that type of event.

Finally I don't personally feel that a trackday/circuit offers anything like the type of learning that can be gained on a training day like at Millbrook or similar facility, however I'm in a lucky position of having been there a couple of times already.
Don't get me wrong, you can certainly learn some things about the 911 handling on a circuit...

I'm fairly sure I've been on at least one 997 Register events before - and I'm a Boxster owner. As said, members recognise the 997 as a particularly active register.

Thank you for all your comments and advice on the the driving courses and on using the forum. I've booked an advanced road and track day with Colin at CAT Driver Training straight after Easter and will post feedback once I have done it. Always good to have something exciting to look forward too!
