Driving / fog light protectors being made!

Afternoon gents, I have been to see a nice man this afternoon about getting some protective covers made for the S2 / Turbo fog lights. They would be vac formed from 2 mm high impact plastic with about a 10 mm border round them. I am still looking at ways of fixing them on the car unobtrusively at the mo but should hopefully have a prototype in a week or 2. Rough cost will be about £30 to £35 per pair as 2 moulds have to be made!!! Put your name on this thread if you are interested as I need to see how many sets I will have to get made!

Put me down for a set of these please Alasdair.
Will be interested to see what these look like.

Blatant hijack of thread.[8|][;)][:D] Sorry Al
If anybodies interested ,,,
I have a pair of these, ORIGINALS...Complete with fixings etc...
Yes they have been fitted to my "old" S2 + as such will have the odd mark, but overall they are in great order...
First person with £35 incl p+p gets them..

Yep...I'm interested too, subject to figuring out an installation method and seeing a picture.

Poss hold in place by pinching the border/flange behind the adjuster cover pieces either side? Depth of cover to the flange would thern be critical I suppose.

Gents, there are 2 options, one would be a lens that is held top and bottom with velcro dots that sit on top of the lamp lens and on the bottom of the lamp lens. These would be vac formed to take into account the curve of the lamp. The lamp front would probably need to come off to stick the dots on and the attach the cover.
The second type of cover would be made from a sheet of plastic cut to the perimeter of the glass and plastic trim covers. This would not need thermoformed as the plastic would keep the profile of the glass after attachment. The cover would be drilled to use the original screw holes for attaching the plastic side pieces onto the glass lamp unit. Pic of this below. This would also be the cheaper option too.

Thoughts on either gents!

I prefer the idea of using the original fixing holes. Could vac formed ones not be hold in place in the same way just to make them really expensive!? The only problem I foresee with that is holding the little plastic trims at either end of the light unit in place asembling the whole lot up.

Any chance Big Dave and post a picture of his to see how they are mounted?

I think the originals are thermoformed (Big Dave i am interested if still available), and screw on, I think the ones pictured would collect rubbish between them and the light unit though a bead of silicon around the outside left to dry before fitting might stop this.
Tony

Tony, probably be best thermoformed then with a border round them to cover the entire assembly by 10 or 15mm with attachment by the original screw,
Alasdair

I've got some of the originals (although one is badly cracked after hitting a pheasant). The ones I have are formed to the shape of the light and to fit probably 10mm into the gap between the light and the bumper all around. They fit to the screws which hold the plastic infill pieces either side of the glass lens. There is a small stainless piece which uses the original infill screw and then a stud which goes through a hole in the cover and a plastic thumbscrew which retains it.

This description probably isn't that clear (even to me!) so if you want some photos Alasdair then I'll send you some. Mine aren't fitted to the car at the mo due to one being broken but they're an excellent idea. As a result of these being fitted for most of the car's life my lights are near perfect after 145k.

It looks like I will go down the thermo formed route. I am going to see if I can get a couple of originals for the guys to copy. I have bought a car with them there but don't know when I can pick it up!
Will be the same way of fitting with a small bracket and fixing to hold them on.
Alasdair

Alasdair,
I have them on both of mine, call me and i will explain how they are fitted.
Jim.
