Drove My First S2 Today

Fair play gentlemen a lovely car and a lovely engine. Far more revvy and civilsed than I thought it would be for a 4 cylinder 3 litre engine and plenty of go all over the range. It will never replace my turbo though. It is a great car it is a 944 after all but I am having mixed feelings. As I said to Andy tonight I am almost disappointed because it was too nice and too civilised. There was no kick up the arse that I am used to. It was just a bit too nice. Sorry Andy [:)]

No apology needed! [;)] I know what you mean in that it doesn't have that turbo kick, I'm guessing that once I find some decent twisty stuff it will be good fun though. I like it though, it's quick but can be civilised if you wish - smooth speed [8D]

Now, if there was a square dash turbo......

Yes Andy and I think it is exactly what you need. You have the best car you wanted and it is superb bar the little geo ( I am sure it is) problem. It took me about 2 mins of driving it to know that [:)]

Exactly what I said after changing from my Lux, and the point Pixie made about the early cars as well.

An S2 is an awesome car, and I love mine, but it's far more of a comfortable GT than the nimble sports car the Lux is when it's properly set up. Of the range, the only one I've not driven is a turbo, but if I had to buy again I would be very hard pushed to decide whether to go for the more fun Lux or S, or the more grown up S2. If it was a daily driver there'd be no contest, but for purely fun driving I would be struggling not to err on the side of a Lux. Possibly with a bit of weight taken out. [8|]

I would certainly use the S2 as a daily driver, I bought it as the one I found seemed such a sorted car, despite leaning towards an earlier 944. I'm still hankering for a square dash tbh - and wouldn't mind that turbo 'shove' too. I get the feeling that these two models may well be taking up space on my drive at some point in the future as well - not all at the same time though![;)]

Already have a MK1 Golf sat in the garage, so no room at the inn! TBH if I had the cash to do so I think I would have also bought the square dash car I nearly went for and then live with both until I could make my mind up! I think that could be dangerous though, I'd want to keep both [;)]

Theres a 944 for everyone, I think [:D].

I use my early car as a daily did 200 miles in it yesterday and picked some wheels up for the Jag! Then again I refuse to drive modern boremobiles, so enjoy classic cars.

Andy - I'm really looking forward to seeing your S2 at the 944 meet next week. Rob - are you coming in your turbo?

I'll, predictibly be in my black one .... don't use the gold one much at all now so I think it may well go up for sale, as we've got 4 cars and would like a bit of space for another (we're part time classic traders)! Just bought an MGB GT V8 ... [:D] it's all good fun and the youngest is over 20 years old, that one will be going soon probably to be replaced with something even older.

Should be an excellent day, will be great to put some faces to names!Glad you're bringing the black one pixie, will be able to get my square dash fix for the day [:D]

yesterday and picked some wheels up for the Jag!

I've probably asked already but what jag do you have ? not a Mk ll by any chance ?
i'm seriously tempted . I just have to get one to get it out of my system ....or not..[;)]

I loved my 85.5 Lux for 9 years until I wrote her off at 20mph [:(]

Yes the S2 has so much more power and just keeps pulling like a train at seemingly any revs but I still miss my first love............

Wheres this meet then ?.... probably Edinburgh knowing my luck [&o]

The Jag would be mine... It's an '89 XJ40 2.9 auto in saville grey.
Very comfy car and the 4.0 litre Daimler variants are something of a bargain these days. As are the V12 variants.

I don't rate mk2's at all. They aren't that nice to drive. Far better choice is the S type or 420 *NOT* 420G - totally different animal although they are very good in their own right. However, if mk 2's are your thing, the Mk10 / 420G certainly wont be for you.

A 420 manual is an awesome car. It's essentially a mk2 centre section with a raised roofline, S type rear end with the lovely independant rear suspension system and a mk10 style front end with the 4.2 litre version of the XK six. They also come in a Daimler variant badged as simply "soverign".
They only made them for 2 years, though so a very rare car.

Sorry could'nt resist, completely off topic but I love mk2's... Perhaps the iconic British saloon of the 20th century.

breathtakingly gorgeous.! my favourite colour in the 60's was the metallic silver .I will own one of these one day [;)]

Unfortunetely, I don't like the front end of the Mk.2, although, that car pictured does look a beautiful example. [:)]

Not that long ago Jon and I looked at a 420 (well it was actually the Daimler version). They are lovely cars to look at and drive, the one we saw was the more unusual manual version. It was very "60's", in my opinion! Would really like to have one ... one day. [:D]

I like Jags and would certainly like to get my hands on a 420 and an XJ12 (Series 1 or 2 preferrably, followed by a Series 3 version). I do fancy having a big saloon at sometime!

Yes Nick, but when we go halves on one then I'd be quite happy for it to be BRG. With black or tan interior ... hubba hubba I'm going all dreamy just thinking about it ... [:D]

Oli.

Going back to Robs original point of S2 compared to Turbo. He was obviously forgetting the massively important fact about colour! As everyone knows a Baltic Blue S2 is the fastest colour, rather like mine.
