Dynamix Seat Refurb

Resisted the air DA sander, but did buy an air chisel which will be epically spectacular if I ever get to use it... [:D]
 
Machine Mart are a good source of compressors,airlines ,adaptors etc-my recommendation is to avoid the PSL/EU standard couplings & just use the 1/4 BSP threaded adaptors -these don't restrict the airflow as much especially when using a budget compressor or airbrush -they only need to screwed on reasonably handtight & then also it is easy to extend the airline length using a 1/4" union nipple.
Good source of cheap compressors can be surplus carpet stapling kits that are on the market from time to time-my local engineering stockists sell them from£20--my SIP 7.5 cfm -1.5 HP compressor cost me £25-new from them & have since bought 3 slightly smaller similar ones for my son,son-in-law & the latter's father for £20 ea.Revill sell an airbrush for modelling use around £15-have used mine frequently to refurbish Dinky Toys & similar small jobs but picked up a gravity fed small but proper touch up spraygun for £15 which is superb,much better than an airbrush-got mine from a summer fair,but again Machine Mart sell a similar one-I think they are all made by the same company but branded differently.

Have to say I've never picked up enough courage to do a whole seat ,or used a spraygun to refinish one but have used the Gliptons material,spoken to them 1st & followed their advice to refinish an antiqued dark green leather chesterfield which uses two different coloured dies,a base green coat(s) followed by a very dark green finish.
Despite what I had previously read,they recommended using the leather cream 1st to "feed" & soften the leather-in fact several applications before re-dying ,then finishing with it.One cushion ,I had had to get a new leather panel inserted 1st of a slightly different shade (all that was available) -the guys that did that recommended the Glipton stuff.
What I did was to send Gliptons a small offcut of leather from the replaced panel & they matched the dies to that & sent the complete kit with sponge die applicators-instead of using the airbrush ,I chickened out & used the sponge applicators.
Good result,though.

More red wine needed!.Basically the same just 250 - 4 version is a larger capacity form.
Whichever you get practice before hand to get a spray pattern and coverage you are happy to spray with.
A few light coats is better than a heavy thick one.

Sorry that wasnt clear. Id established that the -4 model had the larger cup, but I wasnt sure whether the extra capacity would be needed or useful.

Will a 250-2 hold enough to do a seat at a time and if the -4 holds double, is it possible to prep then spray two seats at a time to avoid the repitition?
 
If you want to do 2 seats at the same time get the larger capacity one.Between each coat you may need to wash out the spray nozzle or it will block up or you can stick a pin down the nozzle to stop it blocking up - usually works.

A bit of a non post but further to this and before I re-fitted the seats I took the runners off and re-furbished them.

Not a hugely interesting task, but does makes a noticeable difference to the appearance stepping in and out. They were full of grease and generally a bit tatty looking, as I imagine most are, so worth doing if you have the patience.

They are a bit of a pain to remove from the seat itself. Once I had them free I degreased them, rubbed them down with W+D then gave them a fresh coat of matt black paint and popped them back on. I want to get some new seat bolts to complete the as new look, but couldn't find any suitable on the weekend, will just get them from OPC I guess. [:mad:]

Set of new genuine mats completes the footwells nicely.

I really need to get used to taking pics of this kind of thing!
