Dyno Day - Carrera 3.2... ?

I'm well up for it. JFYI, I spoke to Powerstation at Tewkesbury last year about a dyno day, they do it all the time and can get it down to £29 a car if enough people turn out.

I also spoke to Thor Racing at Kenilworth about dyno runs. Takes a while to get things set up with them as they bolt their dynamometer to your hubs, but then you get no slippy roller syndrome and the reading is completely accurate.

Normally you're looking at about £60 for a decent 2wd run with them. For a club day, the most they can handle in the day is 18 cars starting at 8 AM, half an hour a car and if you can bring 18 cars they will do it for £45 a head including VAT. They quoted me late last year but their prices have not changed, so I am assuming they can still do this rate. This is the way I would go, pay a bit extra for complete accuracy.

Their 4wd setup handles up to 1600bhp btw (£80 a run normal price) and lowered cars not an issue...

I'll can contact either of these guys again and start setting it up if you want me to. You could also ask Allan Mc about dyno day rates.

I would definitely be up for this if you don't mind a 964 interloper ........

I'm an interloper too so I guess that goes for me as well...

Feroz, did I pass you by Stanford Hall on Sunday - you were coming in as I was going out? If that was your car it sounded absolutely fabulous. If the answer is yes, can you record your exhaust note and send me it on a CD please - about 200 miles worth ought to do it [8D]

Hi John

Alas, it wasn't me. My car is standard so doesn't sound that fruity. Thought about getting a cup pipe and cat bypass for the noise but it causes problems getting on to quiet days at certain track days.

Hope to see you soon, I am going to try and get some dates for a dyno day so perhaps see you there.

Regards

Lots of interest shown so I have spoken to Allan @ Weltmeister and we have discussed holding a dyno day on Saturday 2nd July from about 9am. Weltmeister is conveniently located next to the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit and has one of the best rolling road facilities in the UK and now includes a new fan specifically designed to provide airflow for rear engined cars ie the 911.

For a very reasonable GBP40 each car will get a minimum of 2 runs (or as many as it takes to produce consistent results to within 1 BHP) and data plotted will be:
- Lambda (air fuel ratio)
- BHP at wheels
- BHP at Flywheel (extrapolated)
- Torque
- Boost pressure (for Turbo cars!!)

Sounds like a great opportunity to get together and see whether some of the mods people make really make a difference or if your standard car is up to scratch. It would be interesting to see what people think their cars make and what they make on the dyno.

Would love to see a fine collection of RSs on the day but will leave the event open so we have some variety and numbers. Weltmeister can cater for between 12 - 30+ cars in a day so plenty of room.

Some admin ......... please add your name to the thread on the 964 RS forum if you are definitely coming so I can keep a record of numbers - I'll update this on a regular basis. If your car is 4wd we must know in advance so that the extra rollers can be set up. Please provide the following information name, car, bhp estimate ......... I'll kick off

Look forward to seeing you there.
