Emulsifying in Water and Oil 966 Carerra 4S

Hartech will rebuild a head, but I don't think they like welding a cracked or pinholed one. Will Autofarm do that?

After the flush, I again suggest you get a proper coolant analysis laboratory test done after a couple of weeks. This will tell you EXACTLY what is in the water - engine oil, ATF, and other particulates. Then you can make an informed decision.

Personally I would follow what Richard has posted before I made any decisions.

Whilst the internet is great for finding stuff out, it is far better at breeding paranoia!

There are waaaay more w/c Porsche engines that live long and prosper than those that have issues, but the good one's never get much publicity.

Thank you

Who will do the test on the coolant

I am either going to do a full flush with a degreaser as suggested by Hartech hopefully today

Both Hartech and Autofarm have been incredibly professional and helpful but they both basically rebuild engines

A said earlier Hartech will remove, rebuild the engine and replace it for 3.5k + VAT which is very good value. (see their website and very good manual on what they do)
But they think its a head and they only warrant a new head. They will check the oil cooler when its removed to see it this is a problem.
The do rebuild a head (and warrant that work) but understandably they do not warrant a REPAIRED head (ie one that has cracked as this is done by someone else)
New heads around 2k so if one head is cracked its going to cost 5.5k (If this was a 25k car or a classic car I would just tell them to go ahead but this car cost me 12k
Hartech's main business is removing and rebuilding engines that warrant a rebuild they do not seem to want to carry out diagnostic work
This is what they do and they do it very well. It is still probably the way I will go if we Prove its the engine

I will check on Monday but I THINK Autofarm actually repair heads and may be able to check the before before it all comes out.
If it is just a head and they can do it without removing the engine this will be a more economical way of getting the car back on the road

So next job its to get rid of all the old contaminated water and run it as suggested. I have got a slot with Hartech next week
Will keep you all posted

Do you know if a head can be removed without removing the engine

My problem : Is it worth spending 5k + on a car that cost me 12k that has done 100k miles. Its the most beautiful car Ive ever owned and more importantly my wife, who has had a lot of brain surgery loves going out in it
THANKS FOR EVERYBODY'S FEED BACK will keep you informed

Somewhere like here: http://oilsampling.co.uk/Coolant-analysis-kit

Edit: No experience of the company, it was just the first hit on Google.

RIGHT

Got the Coolant Flush Worth Rad Cleaner which degreases the sysyem

What is the cheapest anti freeze I can use

I WILL Replace it with Porsche once this is sorted but cant see any point in spending 100.00 on antifreeze only to flush it or remove it I a couple of weeks

I have 5 litres of Morris Finest Quality Antifreeze and can get anither 5 litres

Thanks

Richard,

I think you have to ask yourself what you're going to do if you don't get it repaired. Are you going to sell it on with a known problem to some unsuspecting buyer (caveat emptor!) or sell it on to a Breaker for parts (it may well be worth more than you think)?

RichardH's oil analysis kit looks useful but I'd ask them how/if it can distinguish between engine oil and ATF.

Hope it all turns out well for you.

Jeff

As long as I can get it done without too much cost I will probably get it done

The engine runs superbly an absolute dream

IF its a head and I can get it repaired I will do it

Cant really see why I should completely rebuild the engine if its only the head 'While you've got the head off you might as well'

Been there done that with quattro before they where worth what the are today

The bumph on the web site shows the can distinguish
the difference

However Morris Oils are just down the road and they have a laboratory (Son in law used to work for them)

Antifreeze: Provided it's suitable for aluminium engines, for the sake of a couple of weeks I wouldn't worry too much what you put in Richard.

Very handy having an oil analysis lab on your doorstep.

Porsche Approved, and nothing like as expensive as buying "genuine" coolant.

Had it all done - Flushed with a high Quality Normfest Cooler Cleaning agent

Flushed 4 Times and filled with Bluecol Blue

Unfortunately got Richards Recommendation too late!!

However if everything is OK I will replace it with Porsche or X40 withine 4 weeks (Help clean it anyway

So will try it all out this week

Going to Porsche Chester next Saturday - see what they think

After adding Normfest and draining no apparent contamination came out

Will take it to Morris Oils for analyses if there is a problem

THANKS EVERYODY Hope this is the end of this THREAD you must all be P--s---d off!!

Looking Good so far

Did about 100 miles going to Welshpool Air Show yesterday

Bit of fast legal driving stuck in some traffic. got home and just tiny bits of brownish substance in Coolant

Hopefully final bits of previous contaminant

Will take it for a decent drive as soon as we get some good weather and report

Crossing my fingers

Thanks

I'll bet you a pint ( of beer or similar ) that the car has nothing major wrong with it. Also some people on here and elsewhere get really hung up on using Porsche branded coolant ,oil and other stuff like that. As long as you buy a good quality product from a good supplier then you'll be fine. It's a car with an engine it's not made from kryptonite or Myrrh, loads of fairly normal cars out there have engines made from the same materials. Good luck and enjoy the car [:D]

Thanks Colin

AS I expected to have to drain the coolant again I used Bluecol Blue (Most other Porsches use Red)

As previously discussed this car has had a lot of Warrant work carried out since Christmas (After I change the Coolant when I first bought it) So I am hoping the dealer told the garage to use the old coolant

Lets see what happens this week - booked in at Porsche Chester on Saturday for a free lookeover ad on a run round the Lake District the following day

I think it runs too well for a major problem

That should sort my Pride and Joy out!!!

Thanks

Give our love to Scotland (Married at Gretna 26 years ago and Appeared on Wish You Where Here as the couple who married at the Blacksmiths Shop on the Programme (Its all change since then!!!)

Happy Days [:D]

The water pump has gone (or is going)

Could this be the source of the oil!!!

Coolant still as clean as a Brazillian Whistle

Bad Water Pump

Porsche Chester stock the Water Pump but not the gasket!!!!!

Not their fault its what Porsche send them

Euro Cart parts stock the ORIGINAL PORSCHE Pump but NOT a gasket

Both will do so in future

Local F1 Removed the pump on Friday afternoon (Started at 4.15)

I picked up the gasket and dropped it of at 8.30

Picked the car up at 10.15 Sounds great again

Managed to get up to a great day at Porsche Chester where they valeted the car, gave me a horrible to do list and let me drive a 400 bhp 911

Awesome Day - Thanks to Sue for organising it also thanks to Jackie at Porsche and best wishes to Dan in parts

Got my first magazine

An I wondered about paying 72.00 for a years membership - GUESS IT WILL BE THE BEST 72.00 I ever spend on my Porsche!!

Love to hear a happy ending. Just goes to show you it's not always gloom and doom. Get out there and fall in love with it again. I hope you and your wife have many many happy miles in it. And if your at any events this year say hello.
