Ending my membership after poor treatment

Fair points Paul - not as cost effective dropping the iPad in the bath!.

I am not trying to be subversive or mischievous, rather taking some discussion forward. Perhaps an option to take PP as digital only could be an option (with a reduced membership fee?) If the views that the majority want a print version are true then this will be difficult but has any kind of survey or opinion been sought?

It's a great debate, and one we need to have. There has been discussion about other car clubs who do offer dual-memberships, but it's not as simple as it seems.

We've often been told that something like £30 per membership is the cost of the printed and posted PP, but you can't just offer £30 discount on the membership to opt-out. Advertising would fall off a cliff, the cost of the remaining paper copies would rocket, and I'm not sure there would be a massive discount if everything was taken in to account.

There's the argument that a digital version lets you explore far more from what you are reading, but I genuinely don't do this with Car or the Sunday Times. I want a well-written article, not a short summary with links to further reading?

I'm also not trying to be subversive or mischevious, but it would be really interesting to get some feedback from the publications manager, or any of the board? Particularly our Chairman, who is a publisher himself. [8|]

Agreed - equally, to just discount he total cost of a printed PP is not the way to do it TBH.

Whilst there may be some fall off in advertising revenue, is see little advertised in PP that is not advertised on other Porsche magazines which do both formats.

As for a 'well written' article - the OP's angst is what started this thread and whilst I agree, PP is not there yet for me - printed or otherwise. Is it the involvement of publishers and editors who do what they do to pay the bills beneficial or not (genuine Q BTW).

They could still do this via digital media - the digital letterbox is no different.

I disagree, and I think I'm not in a minority.

I subscribe to Car magazine and the Sunday Times, and have done for about 30 years. I'm an online-junkie, but these are the publications I go to when I want to get off the internet, if that makes sense?

Indeed it does. I think that many of us who have to spend a lot of time using electronic media find a return to the printed page very refreshing.

The magazine could just as easily be accused of having too much focus on people sitting around at picnics, or garage open days, and not enough on the cars!

My thoughts exactly, getting more & more like the MX5 owners club for magazine content!

I wonder if this (meaning a request to solicit opinion on PP content and delivery - which looks like a popular and useful one to discuss) ought to be set up as a separate thread - risk that this one may not be viewed by folks not looking to engage in the original 'argument'?
