Engine number query

New member
Hi all - forgive my ignorance as I am a newbie to all things Porsche 944.
My query is are all M44/52 engines Turbo S with 247Bhp? [&:]

My car is an '89 944Turbo but I am unsure what output it is rated. It is not clear in the documentation I have with the car either.
I understand that turbo's pre 89 were 217Bhp and thereafter were the 250Bhp. Mine seems to be on the cusp. The Engine type is a M44/52 serial number 47Kxxxx.

I don't remember the engine number (someone will) but an '89 car will be (nominally) 250bhp. It is possible that your car is actually an '88 that was registered late though. Remember the '89 cars started to ship in September '88.

Does it have it's original wheels? If so and they are forged alloys (similar to Design 90) then it is a 250, if they are flat '928' style it's a 220. Also if it is a 250 it will have an LSD, if it's a 220 it will only have one if it was specified as an option. Also, an '89 250 car will have height adjustable front struts and an '88 220 will not.

Take a look at this website Wizard http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/ This states that engine M44/52 with a serial number of 47Jxxxxx onwards will be a 250bhp

I believe (but am not positive) that 220bhp engines are coded as M44/51.

The sticker in my handbook states that I have a 952 (RHD Turbo) 052 (250bhp version)

Thanks to the referal of the web site - this is the one I have been looking at the reason for the question.

Thanks

Fen,

It does say 952 052 - question answered.

I'll try and think up some more easy questons for you guys!

thanks
