Engine tin

George, Colin

Many thanks for your comments, its very interesting to hear your point of view regarding the tin ware. The cost is certainly a major factor with this issue. What would fibre glass alternatives cost?

Regards Michael..

Michael,
I wouldn't be put off by power coating. Like most things, its all in the quality of preparation and if done correctly is an extremely durable finish that will give years of protection to metal components, not least to tin ware. A zinc coating may also be applied prior to the powder coating for additional protection.

I don't believe any one out there has yet perfected an after-market replacement, that doesn't require some fettling to make them fit or is even a fraction of the price.

What would fibre glass alternatives cost?

Using very rough fractions, "less than half"

Call Roger at Redtek, he's very busy making them. Colour choice too.
(I went for Black, not any old black, genuine Porsche Black) [8|]

Hi George,
Have been on Redtek website, unfortunately they don't appear to advertise they are supplying fiberglass replica tin ware.
Would be interested to see some pics? do you know folks who have had some made?

Hi Paul,
call them, ask for Roger, they seem busy which is a good sign.
I took the view a daily driver originality is not seriously important, and if an equivalent or arguably superior part is avail at < half the cost, then it is acceptable. It is retrofittable with OE tin if that is ever required.
Hope you are keeping well, those old struts have lasted pretty good. :)
regards
George

Hi George,
I'm well thanks hope you are too. Good to read that those struts are still going strong too.
I've heard good reports from Redtek. Fortunately I'm not in the need for tin ware, but its always good to here that there are reputable companies/people manufacturing quality replica parts. We are all in the unfortunate position where parts are becoming more and more scarce so naturally the prices of original ones become inflated.
Trust your 964 is still running strong?
