Unfortunately my 924s engine came to a swift demise a few weeks back in some flood water??so now on the lookout for a replacement and will consider all variants 2.5/2.7/3.0 good opportunity for an upgrade??
Gary

I have a fully forged 2.5 8v Turbo engine with 3000 miles on it. Read my thread for the full spec list to see if it’s what you’re looking for.

Gents,

Thanks for the input as appealing as a turbo conversion sounds probably a bigger undertaking than I was looking for I would then be looking at intercooler/brakes/wheels etc etc
I suspect like most project my initial budget would be well burst! my first choice would be a 3.0 which should be reasonably straightforward.
Thanks

Gary

£5k for my engine, intercooler pipes are there so just the intercooler itself. Probably about another £2k for management, clutch etc. as you’re not coming from a Turbo already. £1k for brakes if you need to upgrade them.

With an S2 engine you’ll probably need most of that too though. You must be able to pick a reasonable 2.5 replacement up for cheap though.

Eldavo, thanks for the info all just a stretch too far both technically and financialy for me to embark on the turbo conversion and your right plenty 2.5 options available for not much money which I may end up doing just looking at the various options and costs at the moment??(enjoyed your thread car is a cracker)
Blade-not your time or money no need to worry, power not the goal nice to have something a bit different no?

Something different like a LS V8 yes. A baggy S2 engine, no.

Well thanks for your enlightenment on what I sbould be doing with my Porsche??
Had to check I hadnt logged on to pistonheads.
So to try and get this back on track I am still looking for an Engine (porsche) probably better sending me a pm in case you upset any of the keyboard warriors.

Must admit I am tempted - my Coupe does look sad in the unit with its pyjamas on

Just some banter they should have added a few more smilies.

Simon at SPS engines or EMC may have an S2 engine though they both specialise in rebuilding them so may only have shiny rebuilt ones.

There are swaps with a VW 1.8 or 2.0 :) which can be tuned pretty highly and is in the family.
https://rennlist.com/how-tos/slideshows/swapping-a-20v-turbocharged-1-8t-vw-audi-engine-into-a-944-517427 :ROFLMAO: I think they bolt straight up to certain 924 torque tubes.

A good second hand 944 engine is not that easy to come by these days, though there may still be a rotten car with a reasonable engine out there.

I’ve just pulled the turbo out of my car and swapped over the pedestal mount for the one off my old engine I had modified to fit the bigger turbo. I’ll be reassembling the turbo and mount and then will get a proper For Sale advert done. Even comes on an engine stand and with a load of other bits and bobs too :p

Why not stick with a 2.5 8v NA? S2 engines are mostly asking double the price of the 2.5 8v and as others have said there is no guarantee they don't need a full rebuild. You are probably talking around the 5k mark to source and rebuild an S2 engine, and I'd say that is on the cheap side of the scales.

Yip may well end up with I have been offered plenty 2.5 options a full 3.0 option as a package ecu etc are about 3k with either high mileage or dubious history not in any hurry so will see what turns up ??
