Engines Coming Out

Latest update, just come back from our trip across Europe :-

Went from Calais to Dijon and across to Montreux, over Mont Blanc (complete with snow !) through Italy and along to Monaco. Drove the Col de Turini and the Var Gorge whilst in Monaco then back home via Dijon and back to Calais. 9 days in all.

Covered 2043 miles, averaged 29.3 mpg and the journey home included a 10 hour stint. The car ran great and I arrived home still feeling refreshed. Think I have picked up most of the French fly population on the nose of the car though !!

I have to say the 993 was an absolute pleasure to drive over long distances and did really well considering it was a pile of bits on the garage floor a week before we went !

May do it again next year, it would be great to do it with some other Porsche owners as well so anyone interested let me know.

That's one hell of a test drive! It must feel very rewarding to have it all in good order now and all your own hard graft to get it there.

That is some trip - well done to you on the big engine job just before.

We regularily drive through France/Germany to the Swiss Alps in ours and I remember a week before one trip the steering rack failed and I had to remove it and get it reconditioned and refit and geometry check before we went.

Nothing compared to what you did but I know the feeling of satisfaction from doing it successfully yourself.

I drove the Monte Carlo Historic Rally route (incl Col Du Turini) just a few weeks ago... took in Millau and Le Mans on the return journey... 2500 miles in 10 days... I will be up for a group run with you and others in 2011...
