Essence of Porsche ....

Matt,
From memory the first batch of Cup Cars (based on the C2) all had C2 door cards minus the doorbins. Colin Belton's Viper Green beastie is the same.

It is made long before the RS existed in 964 shell! It was the prototype with standard C2 rear bumper and steering wheel.

You can see in the videos that some of the Cup drivers fitted their personal favorite wheels to the car.

Looking at the gear shift pic Hacki, do you have the option of 3-2-1 like on the standard tiptronic? How is the best way to drive it Hacki, using the up/down "tip" or just in "D" mode?

Matt,
it shifts the standard way. I have a race gearbox ECU that makes it rev higher before shifting, but never use it. I also have an element of the gear box that makes it shift faster, stored that one also. Chris, you would like it, it´s wrapped in plastic (in Weissach) and there are still the notes on the tape holding it together the mechanic wrote when he took that part out.

I drive it on track using the tip option and that´s what Walter Röhrl did most of the time. The disadvantage is the missing fifth gear, the wider spread causes compromises in many corners. But I tell you, it´s fun! Paul (964RS) followed me for a while, I think, we had fun, so maybe he can tell what it looks like to go round in a tip Cup car.

Cup cars had a standard steering wheel those days, I think everybody put in a different wheel..... except Walter Röhrl when he raced mine. Doorcards original, there was no RS in 1990.

I don´t really have to answer anything myself.... whole lotta special knowledge on this forum! Impressive!

for the NGT, I believe standard wheel was indeed the standard RS wheel, certainly the pics of original cars have that, and thats what came with mine.  I think the think is, they are so damn big and heavy, that everyone swaps them for suede momo style wheels from an aftermarket supplier, also done on my car.  Dont know about cup cars....

And mine was standard RS --- now boxed [;)]

My '91 Cup door cards as Hacki with red door pulls. I thnik the handles are early 911 items.....[:D]

Steering wheel Momo with cut outs -v. comfortable and tiny!!

That´s how it came, I never changed the door pulls nor the handles. I think, the first series of 50 cars had it that way.

I see your front bumper has the headlamp washer blanking plugs/caps (944 part no. actually) ...once again pre RS. I only know this because my car has them (wide body but pre RSR).

...not that I am suggesting my car is in the same league Hacki! Hope my post didn't read like that.

Matt,

that´s not original. The original front bumper was without holes, RS style. That´s how all Cup cars were from the beginning.
My original front bumper died in the gravel trap during a club sport event at the N´ring GP track. It was way cheaper to replace it with a standard C2 part (only difference: two holes!), because it was available as a used part. It was common in Clubsport to do that, when you look at the pics of those days, you´ll see it.

You chaps don´t miss a detail, don´t you?[:D]

All the best,

Hacki

This car should be the subject of an article for Porsche Post. It might even mean we have something written under the 964RS section! :ROFLMAO:[;)][;)]

Rich, your right, in the meantime seek out Sept 90 Christophorus (issue 226 I think), article by W. Rohrl himself.

Nothing wrong with the odd battle scar here and there Hacki! After all,it is a race car isn't it! I think that it is so great that you drive the car as you do Hacki (as we all do on here! Well not sure about Rich[;)]). Many people would not dare use such a unique car but where is the fun in that?! [;)]

You certainly give no quarter on the track - that car, and you, shift. Only when I got more experience on the track (bravery), lighter fuel load (ahem), skipped lunch and jettisoning Des (sorry Des!) did I manage to rein you in - just. And you brake with what????!!!!! Jeez....

Any chance of a ride with you if we can all make the Spa PCF day next year ?

Matt, would it be possible for you ?

It's the biggest [;)] on the block [:D]
