Hi
Now the GTS is 3 years old I think it is time to have a little tweak with the car.
I see shark Werks do a muffler bypass system that appears to still work with the PSE button but gives that extra bark to the exhaust I am seeking and apparently with PSE off will still pass track day tests which is important to me
I Located a a company who can install in the UK

Any advise or caution ?
Thanks

Thanks Ralph, seasons greetings
The main issue seems to be possible unpleasant resonance apparently worse with PDK and to credit shark Werks they mention this in the web site and say it can be cured with software tweeks - that's not something I want to get involved in but understand this a slippery slope!
Anyone fitted or had experience first hand - understand they only fit > 2009 models

And because it's Christmas you probably want to do a few things on this list...

Thanks - having spent a couple more hours on the interweb the shark Werks straihpght pipes replacement for the u shaped ones in the standard centre muffler seems to have pretty inversal approval from users and shark works seems to have properly researched and fitted on their car with no need to remap ECU or mess with cats( plus seems to work well with PSE I have )

Like the fact also that you can reverse the mod in a couple of hours and no bodywork needs removing
Will speak to a few specialists next week but might see if I can import direct as it seems a $799 set turns into about £1300+ in UK!

Does anyone think an OPC would fit or is that a complete no no?

Tony

OPC may not fit as they are likely to push OEM only.

Also they wont know the Sharkwerks product, they'll know the car but not the exhaust system.

Perhaps better fitting at an approved dealership with experience of both........

I bought a muffler bypass for my 997.2 GT3 from Gert at Carnewal.com. I'm sure they're ordered on request from the US. Gert sells them for 1250 Euros which is just under £1k subject to the FX rate. Since it's within the EU, you have only carriage and no further tax to pay. I also fitted the remote control for the valves. He doesn't list an exhaust for the GTS but I'm sure he could get you a price.

I've had no concerns or issues and leave the valves open almost all of the time. An OPC will not fit the exhaust but take it to your local Porsche independent specialist and they'll have the job done in less than 2 hours.

ABP Motorsport bring in the SharkWerks 997.2 bypass for about £700. They'll fit it or they can post it to you. They do the GT3 one too.

I don't know how much it is normally but £700 seems very keenly priced. I just looked at their Facebook page and they have 991 GT3 bypasses in stock as well now. Nice.

Thanks for responses - I have seen ABP details and will speak to them also Regal in Southampton seem to have fitted a few

No surprise that OPC will not fit but I suppose it will invalidate my Porsche warranty also who ever fits[]

So sherkworks centre muffler bypass ordered and due to arrive shortly owner of UK importing company has fitted it to his own 997 GTS so pretty good recommendation- he says sound has transformed car and still muted when PSE off --£699 seems a pretty good price.
Importing company are in direct contact with sharkwerks in California and have had the pipes modified slightly to give 2 mm more clearance on the crossover. This lack of clearance was thought or be the issue causing resonance on a small number of PDK cars.also they now supply with stainless studs and nuts to make reversal easy if ever required ( 1 H in workshop)'as we don't all live in the Californian climate !

I'm Having a well respected independent Porsche dealer fit before the New Year

OPC have said that exhaust not warrantable item so non related items to exhaust still covered under extended warranty - happy days

Hopefully much improved sound will result plus modest 12 HP increase at wheels side bonus
Tony

Hi Gary
Exhaust has arrived from States and fitted next Tuesday so I will give an update after that

An interesting position, as most/many OPCs would not renew an extended warranty at all with such a third party part on the car. (Agree that the original 3-year manufacturer's warranty would be fine.)

Have you asked them if you'll be able to renew the extended warranty?

As the exhaust is attached to the engine, would they cover an engine blow up I wonder? I would have thought that the engine was related to the exhaust?

Only the centre silencer is being changed, so I'm not convinced it makes much difference to the engine. The manifolds, cats and remaining two silencers are unchanged. It's nothing the car can't cope with.

I don't think it matters much, does it?

The extended warranty is basically an insurance policy with terms and conditions.

If one of the conditions is that only OEM parts should be used, then this would be a breach of the condition leading to invalidation of the policy, wouldn't it?

Regards,

Clive.
