Exhausted exhaust!

I have a hole in my offside silencer and the near side looks, well........ rather rusty!

Any recommendations on replacements? Dansk, RSR spec or stick with original. Wouldn't mind a sportier note and improved throttle respnse but don't want to fit sports CATs..............what are you running?

You wont get RSR's as they are yours modified, we do the Dansk sports, great product at a great price

How much is a great price shipped to Lanarkshire.........is it the same as the website?

Having a further poke around I'm missing the brackets that support the rear bumper and stop them wobbling about. They are rather expensive from Porsche! Anybody know an alternative?

Hi Colin,

I've got Dansk mufflers on mine - your welcome to have a listen sometime. However, I've also got cat bypass pipes fitted and these make a difference to the sound.

Good luck,

Ossie

Gert does RSR conversions based on new silencers as well as converting your own but they are quite dear.

I have design tecs on mine which sound quite nice

What is the make of your CAT bypass? Did you get your ECU remapped to suit?

Did the same upgrade on the 944 with no issues and good results with a remap but it was an 89 and didn't need a CAT under legislation. I thought 993 did.....

Edit: You will fail an MOT if your CAT is missing but only if your car was on the road after 2002 and had a CAT fitted as standard!so just the emissions to worry about......

I've got Dansk mufflers with Dansk cross over pipes. I had the car remapped by Wayne Schofield. In now produces 305bhp. I was concerned by the emissions test but its passed the last two MOT's without a mention.

The car is quite loud compared to standard but I think it sounds great. The sound is not intrusive in the cabin and is absolutely no problem on a long journey.

That's a nice bit of kit you've got.

Did you fit the exhaust parts yourself? If not who do you use ?

It was fitted before I got the car. I bought it from Strasse in Leeds. Peter at Motortune has been taking care of any work I've needed doing that I can't manage myself. The last job he did for me was a suspension refresh - shocks, springs, anti roll bars, drop links and top mounts. I find him friendly and easy to deal with. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the car.

I was up at Peter's today..........very knowledgable chap. I enjoy tinkering but leave any tricky bits to the experts......

I have cargraphics set up with 100 cell cats ... Sounds amazing .... Prob needs a revisit to Wayne to get the most from them.... Fitted them myself and did all the bumper supports heat shields etc utilising Jackal website (brilliant site)

Got whole set-up cheap via a contact on here - Cash deal etc etc etc

Highly recommended

Further investigation reveals knackered heat exchangers..........I should see this as an opportunity to replace everything!

Not cheap this 993 business......

Afraid so, there's a hole in it and its blowing! Been advised its an MOT failure.

I'd imagine the first ones would be supplied free of charge..........use me as a guinea pig, just to make sure there a good product!

It's a 94 so think it will be a Bischoff type, will jack up and check later to busy at the moment manning the bilge pumps from this mystery leak! Thinking or renaming the car Titanic!

Interesting, I was told a rotton heat exchanger is not an MOT failure because what your looking at is the outer skin NOT the actual heat exchanger which is within.

My offside one had a hole near the front edge, rusty as heck. Wire brushed it back (which made the hole bigger) brushed on rust killer, and carefully covered the hole with liquid metal, rubbed it back before it set, and its absolutly fine.

3000 miles later and you can't see the repair. I've been informed that its not that unusual on the 993 as when something underneath is adjusted and its tight for access (can't remember what) usually the mecanic knocks the heat exchanger and starts the corrosion off.

Colin,

Just out of interest whats the mileage on your 993, she seems with respect to have quite alot of corrosion, more so than mine which though not great at least still had good original silencers and has done 118K.

The other thing to check is the rear chassis legs, that is supposed to be an area where even the garage queens can rot. As you'll be taking the rear bumper off to replace the bumper stays, its an ideal time to find out whats lurking in the rear chassis.

Finally I now have Gerts RSR silencers on my 993. I love them, the wife loaths them. Not to noisey but she now thinks it sounds like a tractor. Finally I added Dansk wide tailpipes (Same as OE special order but less than half the price) just to finish off.

Hey Wozy,

It's done 102,000 miles. I think the problem with the exchangers is the car has sat for a couple years and done very little, as in no mileage! Moisture in the exchangers as PO used to start the car up and let it run for a couple of minutes! The results are attached.

Had a look at the chassis legs and they look good, the only other area of concern is slight bubbles around both screens, this is a 2mm bubble at the edge of the seal on boh screens but the rear screen is leaking! It has been badly fitted so obviously been out at one point and I would hope any rust treated.

It's a 94 model and has Bischoff exchangers which are proving difficult to source new. Thinking of changing to Gilette exchangers, CAT delete and mufflers to suit, probably Dansk. Early Christmas present...........
