Exhausted exhaust!

Was yours leaking gas, mine is definitely blowing.
Will have another look, may try a repair .......sort of talked myself into a whole new dansk system with 100 cell CAT. Silencers are actually OK after I spent a bit of effort cleaning the road grime and salt off.
I too have different silencers each side......why? Can only think Porsche ran out of Bischoff!
Blowing? You mean the heat exchanger? Shouldn't be blowing, that would be extremely rare. I'm guessing it must be somewhere else.
Different silencers are one of two things. 1. A rotton one replaced. 2. Damaged repaired, they have a build date on them and mine were eight years apart .... Hence the different fitments.
Glad your silencers are ok. Forget the expense of a new exhaust and get those silencers off to Gert for RSR treatment.
To me at least, they sound great. The only other thing I'd do is get the cat sorted 200 cell. (Think 100 and the RSR would be a little too loud), and then finally the dansk tailpipes.
Your heater will be a little less efficient in this state, but as it's not harmful gas leaking it should not fail an MOT. The tester is just seeing a hole and feeling air blowing out, then assuming it's the exhaust blowing.
If it were mine I would probably replace them for good used items (new are insanely expensive). One word of caution however would be that they can be extremely tricky to unbolt from the heads. The studs corrode quite badly under all the heat and can snap easily. Best left with those who have the kit to save it on stand by rather than attempting a DIY on the driveway.
Was actually thinking of replacing with the Dansk heat exchangers and indeed a whole Dansk set up including 100 cell CAT. Expensive I know but figuring it should last 20 years at least and by that time I'll be retired and will have time to do the job at home on the drive or it may even be my sons problem!
Is there an official Dansk agent who could do the fitting - you would think that if you spent £2500 on an exhaust that they would fit it for you free.........
I've tried the usual suspects including the two you mention, unfortunately (or fortunately as I believe) I have a 94 (early model) which has the Bischoff heat exchangers. Gillet are more popular and are available and you can use flange adapters which would make the Bischoff remaining system work.............however, I know ultimately I will go for a DECAT or 100 cell CAT at some point so trying to justify in my own mind doing it all at once!
If expense was no option I'd go for it but in saying that if expense was no option I'd be driving a GT3 RS 4.0!

Take care of the bubbles around the screens. They are caused (mainly) by a too aggressive glue that Porsche used. Normally that was fixed within the 10 year warranty - what´s a few bubbles now, will be problem soon.
IMHO the exhaust and heat exchanger are parts, which can be fixed for relatively little money, no big investment necessary.

I do fancy a shiny stainless steel one though........it's shiny!

Agree with GT3 RS4.0! Would the car pass without cats? Have you checked out Rennlist for the options on exhaust?

Car in getting the very small surface area, although Im sure its scary underneath, of paint bubble fixed around the screens as I type...........will keep trying to source a Bischoff heat exchanger as the rest of the exhaust is actually good once it's been cleaned up.

You can get an old exhaust shiny by sending it to metal polishers. I polished mine myself and they were shiny (still not too bad a few years later).

A few folks are running sports mufflers and decat pies here in the UK with no MOT issues.........would imagine some ECU work would be required to get the best advantage.
The RL boys all seem to prefer Fister Stage 111 kit, which sounds pretty aggressive on You Tube!
