Extended is coming !

Well the time has come, and I've been dreading it !

First service is due, which I can just about swallow, but £1290 for a 3rd year warranty on a £100k + car !!?

Anyways been enough already discussed about the above but, does anyone know if there is any room for movement in the service and extended warranty costs ?

I have been quoted the same figure for warranty but 2 different ones for service, £500 (standard price) and £650 (this includes a brake fluid change).

I have done 4k in 8 months of ownership, so therefore is an expensive cost for sitting stationary in the garage for most of the winter.
(yes I know I should get out more in it !)

The car has done 10k miles and is due for its 1st service.

By the way the 111 point check is now included in the £1290...................... (don't tell me, they have put it up by £180)!! []

I have thought long and hard about risking it and saving myself a large wedge, but can the warranty be put on at a later date or not ?

IMO, £1290 is positively cheap!

This a 12 month, comprehensive, official, warranty, including 111 point check and Porsche Assist, on a £100,000+ hi-performance car, with no excess or limit. Much better value than BMW or Land Rover schemes, let alone comparable performance manufacturers.

Yes, the third year should have been provided by the concessionaire (PCGB), but at least this has now been addressed.

On an average Porsche, it probably works out at 10p/mile. So, the more miles you do, the better the value.

Yes, the dreaded warranty question Ian! Like all insurance it only worth it if and when you need it! There are cheaper options - especially if you need breakdown cover for the puncture situation......[:(]

On the service front members should get 10% off but check to see if your PC will let you take your own oil along. That should save a chunk (Asda are selling Mobil 1 cheap in store , I believe!) Thankfully I have 18 months before I have to make the same decision!

I share your thoughts about the warranty. However I would now be around £4000-5000 worse off if I had not taken out the warranty (assuming that all the work done under warranty was really necessary) so for me it is a non brainer. I have been told that you can take it out at a later stage but the car has to go through the 111 point check and brought up to spec before a warranty will be issued. I tried to negotiate over the premuim and got nowhere.

There is generally some scope to negotiate on the servicing cost and it is worth shopping around. Also don't forget the PCGB discount which is a worth a good chunk off the bill.

Ian, I had the 26 days warning come up on my dash this morning..
However its a 4 year biggie for me [:(]

As per recent discussion the warranty inspection is the only moving space the dealers have, some will include this if you're having your car serviced at the same time- thus a saving of £180
The main renewal cost is out of the OPC hands and goes direct to Porsche cars.

Its been worth it for me over the last 12month.

Hi Gary, no the 111 inspection is now inc in the warranty price, no discount or discussion available.

Judging by the response the only possible negotiation is on the £500 service cost ?

Is it really worth taking your own oil ? [8|]

Don't know what a PC will currently charge you for the 9lts you need but I bet it won't be £27! Every little helps - to quote one of their rivals![;)]

Thats changed very recently then- or its your supplying OPC [;)]

The warranty consists of 3 parts, the inspection, the warranty fee and the Porsche assist aspect of it.
I'll be speaking to my local guys soon, so will check it out..

Not sure if I'm missing somthing but if your car is a 2009 as it says it should not be due a service, as your first service is 20,000 miles or 2 years. I note you say the cars done 10,000 and is due a service.
I'm probably wrong but dont want you spending money before you need.

Yes Gary, £169 was Porsche assist which they did mention could be deleted if not wanted, but just gave me the price of warranty inc 111 point check which was not negotiable @ £1290.50

If you purchased 2nd hand 8months ago from an OPC your car would have had less than 12 months warranty left therefore the OPC should have given you an additional 12 months warranty which should be added to the remaining new car warranty therefore your car should be covered until Nov 11. My last Cab was 13 months old when I bought it and I got a full 12 months warranty on top of the remaining 11 months of the original 2year warranty. Its probably worth checking out if you bought from an OPC.

Yes thanks Geoff, but unfortunately it was not purchased through an OPC and therefore just came with the remaining 2yr man. warr.

Oh well time to bend over I guess ! []

Probably best then to take the glass is half full view and accept that you probably paid £1300 less than you would if you had bought from an OPC hence its not really cost you anything !!

Seems like its that time for a few of us too!!

I have had my Targa 4S for almost 2 years now, so the dreaded extended 3rd year warranty will need to be purchased.

Just one point, it does seem that my OPC are a bit slow to respond on the costs and what is needed to be done and the costs too.

I took my car to them a couple of weeks back, to have a couple of items done under warranty, namely the rusty wheel nuts and the condensation in the LED rear lights.

I asked them at that point to produce a quote for the extended warranty and 2 year service but I have seen nothing so far.

I have sent them a reminder email today to say I want to spend money with them, so lets hope that gets a response!!

Will be interested to see how much the quote for my Targa 4S too.

I will keep you posted.

Might be worth talking to Porsche UK too - perhaps they're going to tinker with the price again...?

[:D]....[:D]............[:D] !!

Just asked the question as I was touching my toes awaiting the final bill !

"Yes Sir, we could postpone the warranty till early next year (as your car is being kept in your garage and not moving) but as the warranty has lapsed there will be an extra charge because the car has to then have more checks to qualify for the warranty !!"

"But we do provide a fully insured loan car !!" ..................................That'll be £2k then please ?!!! [:(]

Recently had mine in for it's first service at Reading and also got the third year warranty. They took the inspection cost off the warranty making it 1k (including Porsche Assist) without any argument. They also gave me a good deal on 4 Bridgestones (£800) and discounted the geometry check by £100. I must have caught them on a good day [:)]

Have to say I was very impressed with Reading's service, was looked after well and was even loaned a brand new Cabrio for a couple of days. Quite a refreshing experience for a change....

Price is in for mine....
Warranty is £1079 and a free 111 if the cars in for service at the same time... which cost far outways the 111 inspection!!

I had the 2 year service and bought the 2 tears extended warranty and Hatfield would not drop the 111 charge which I thought was to say the least unfair having parted with close to 3K. Have been a regular customer of thiers for many years and felt quite miffed to say the least. My service contact more or less said take it or leave it . Not great customer service.
