Extended Warranty on 987

Surely there would be enough members of the Boxster register to provide our own warranty ?
From the number of people we have it must all be possible to work out the risk of MAJOR problem - ie gearbox failure, engine failure- then we could all put some money in a pot to pay for any members major problems- say fifty pounds each for the first year and see how it goes ????????

The service and warranty coincide which add pressure for costs etc...I do low milleage in my 987 so decided to service it 2 days before the warranty expired and ditched the idea of a warranty, hope this helps. These cars are now more reliable than ever what could do wrong in a year worth more than £900?

I know exactly how you feel - i just did service, warranty renewal, insurance and a weekend to Champagne within 3weeks [:(] The kitchen cupboards are bare, i'm eating cardboard to stay alive [:D][:D][:D]

Need 2 front tyres now too [&:]

Am sure you won't waste away!![:D]
Just spent £1200 on tyres, 4 on BMW and two rears for 996TT! am also skint![:(][:(]. Like you, will have to live on the champagne thats just been delivered!

How about other warranty companies? I made a quick search and stumbled across warantyworks - 12months for £271.67 pounds - I entered Boxster S, 2000 with 70k miles on the clock. Anyone has experience with other warranty providers? see:

http://www.warrantyworks.co.uk It is almost three times less even if you add RAC "" it is not half as much as £900!

Yes, but look at the limit per claim! [] That won't help much if a gearbox or engine has a failure. Let alone the extras such as Porsche Assistance that the Porsche cover gets you.

Read the warranty booklet VERY carefully before you part with your cash. Only the parts listed in the grey section are covered ....anything else is not. For instance a leaky roof seal isnt covered, nor a wheel bearing or suspension arm. When you look closely at what is covered , most parts are rarely going to fail. Its only the engine and main gearbox that you may consider worth having a watrranty for. However in the case of engine failure the parts are sent back to the factory for final approval before the claim goes through.

I'm another in the same position where my 2 years is almost up.

Speaking to the OPC service dept, they also pointed out that the extended warranty is not as comprehensive as the original.
I need to read up on how much it lacks before making up my mind.

I guess I will end up taking it out, but its a pretty poor show on Porsche's part.

What is the definition of a premium car I wonder?

Not sure how many Porsches need a new engine or gearbox and if Porsche can find an excuse not to pay becuase you hit the rev limiter or ran the oil low , they will surely use it. The extended warranty isnt comprehensive so a lot of the claims that get processed are whats called goodwill gestures by the local dealership. This means they are discressionary and have no rules over what will and will not be covered. I'd be very clear with the local agent that you expect good will gestures if you propose to extend the warranty. Ultimately its not porsche's warranty anyway, its underwritten by another company.

Ok so maybe an engine direct from an opc may well be 12k but i'd venture that a good used one would be more like 3k and a gearbox more like 1k . If you must have new from Porsche then maybe the warrenty is not so bad. But if you go the specialist route and are prepared to buy used then things are possible on a more realistic buget.
