Extended Warranty

Was about to suggest you tried this company ,their policy seem to be very good worth getting a quote.

Bought my 2.7 new in May 2000.

Seldom used now but 106000 miles coming up.

Never had extended warranty.

Never failed an MOT.

Header tank split 6 years ago, alternator packed up last year.

That's about a grand in 13 years.

Hi Rob,

I'm in the same position as mine runs out at the end of March 2016. My consideration was that I would extend it if I was going to keep it for at least another 9 months before trading it in or selling it. If not then it's a gamble as to whether anything goes wrong of significant expense in the short term. I'm going to stick with Porsche warranty but there are others of course with Quentin Wilson offering one which gets good reviews.

I am considering extending my Boxster 981 warranty now the Porsche warranty is about to expire .Has anyone any advice to offer re the best option for me ??

what are you asking ?

best option ? there are 2 options

you take it out
you don't take it out

the best option for YOU, I have no idea, do you want a warranty or not ?
I never bother it's saved me about £15k so far .

I bothered over the last 3 years and it's saved me money. One claim alone was two year's worth of extended warranty. And there have been other bits and bobs which, without the warranty, you might be tempted to leave unfixed! At the end of the day it's an insurance policy. Do you feel lucky or want the security of being insured? I understand from my PC that they have significantly reduced the premium if you take out two year's worth rather than annually. There used to be little difference between 2x1 year and 1x2 year but for mine now I think it's about £700 less. Plus you don't have to pay for the 111 point check in the non service year. I wouldn't bother with a 3rd party warranty though. But, as MrD says, what's the best option for you?

When I needed a new engone and gearbox on my 4 yr old bolster s I was glad of the ops warranty
saved me about £12k
but the decision is yours
you have to ask yourself do you feel lucky punk[:D]

Never one for paying insurance policies for the like of household appliances etc
The car is a bit different value wise . I took out an extended 2year inc Porsche assist on the Spyder despite it having only done 10.500 miles It's all about please of mind .
Have had loads of cars over the years inc prestige marques and Porsche/ Merc are the only ones I have ever taken warranty out with .The Merc paid out a repair bill of £2400 so was well worth the monthly payment

what is helpful though is have you claimed on the Spyder ?

the thing is on the 987.1 car you may have needed it because of the engine (I still not have it though) but most did.

on later cars after 3 years you should NOT need it if you know the car etc etc. give it a 3 year break and take out the warranty later in it's life.

lets look what normally fails on cars, because it's NOT the engine which every one wants to cover they don't fail these days
electric seats,PCM, AC big fail items ! (I don't have any of these fail items in my car lol )
most others like rads, clutch, bushes, disks, shocks etc are all NOT covered and are consumables !

Those consumables may be covered by the extended warranty if you can demonstrate premature failure, i.e they haven't lived anywhere near as long as they should, and you have a good PC! Had that with a suspension part on mine. The HP fuel pump also packed up and that would have been a rather costly repair bill! As I said earlier, I'm still quids in - but they may change in the future if nothing else goes wrong.....[&:]

Hi guys thanks for all your comments.i think it's a bit of a lottery really. My cars warranty ceases at end of December I.e car is three years old.i am tempted to go with Porsche and if I can get 110 point check discounted as my car serviced at Porsche. If they agree then it's a good deal I think for £660 pa.

i am retired so on fixed income so insurance seems the way to go .I have looked at Warranty Wise and Warranty Direct the two biggest competitors. There's not much between the two but they still both have lots of exclusions even although they say 'nearly everything is covered '

Any further comments appreciated.

Rob
