F1 Testing at Silverstone

I have just been looking at the Silverstone web site & they have 2 sets of dates listed the 1st prior to the Brittish GP & the other between the Belgium & Chinese GPs

"F1â„¢ Testing 19-21 June & 18-20 Sept"

I believe the early dates are June 12.-14 inclusive. A PR friend of mine annually hires a trackside suite for all 3 days. This has a private spectating balcony overlooking the pit entrance. There are still some places available.

The cost is £250 pp which sounds expensive but the day is professionally organised and includes all-day catering, free parking, free meals including breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea plus all-day bar, a paddock pass and a lunchtime pit walk.

Also possibly included may be a private visit to one of the F1 team garages (he's working on this at the moment). Normally most of the top teams and drivers attend this session including Ferrari and Renault and speaking from previous experience it's a really fascinating and enjoyable day out with a chance to get up close and personal with some of the world's good and great in F1 Motorsport - something that's impossible during the Grand Prix weekend

If anyone is interested and would care to add their name and preferred date to the bottem of this thread, I'll ascertain availability of places (and no I'm not on commision!)[:-]

About 8 years ago when i was a younger lad my dad used to work for Shell. We also had a few friends that were members of the silversone racing club (the small members building and private grand stand opposite the pits) Through Shell or our friends i went to the F1 for about 5 years in a row. I have to say the experience is amazing but to actually have the oppertunity to watch the full race is pretty unlikey. Too many people and not enough screens.

The real fun happens on an evening when you can get entrance to the paddock and the fosters bar. I met many racers and chatted with a fair few mechanics. I even had the oppertunity to look closer at the Ferrari cars.

You just need paddock passes and to stay for a weekend so you can get into the back of the garages, drink lots of beer and then wander to the fair to make yourself sick on the rides. I really impressive weekend and recommended to everyone.

Another good weekend i went to was, i think it was called the coys weekend. Mainly historic car racing and auctions but all the F1 cars were there and some of the older cars were amazing. I forget which manufacturer but the 6 wheeler was really impressive.
You can get alot closer to everything and as i recall its cheaper.

I've since moved to motorbike racing as you can get even closer and i now race too. If anyone ever considered racing then please do it. I love it and you only live once.

Anyone interested in a free supermoto weekend of beer and racing let me know. [:)]

I get a few tickets for each event so as soon as i know the race dates i'll post them up with an open invite. Some tracks aren't very impressive but some highlights of the year are usually silverstone (usually part of the infield), 3 sisters, teeside autodrome and cadwell park using the mountain section if its dryish or charlies if its slippery or really wet.

This is the left flick before the right as you go up the mountain on my old bike last year, i dont have any over the mountain but most people got a few feet or 'air'

Those date I posted are a direct lift from the Silverstone Website, but they are noted as being subject to confirmation.

You're welcome to join us at the annual 944 Register gathering on the other side of the track [:)]. We'll be outside in the rain with our free tickets and can often be seen lunching on a £5 greaseburger whilst Rick takes copious pictures of our impending Myocardial infarctions

That's kind. I shall certainly raise a glass to you in all due deference to your fortitude.

...whilst Rick takes copious pictures of our impending Myocardial infarctions

That was more brought on by holding Rick's monster 400mm IS lens than a burger in my case.

Bu99er - more photography talk - sorry...

Update:- Wednesday is now full. Tuesday is still available and there just a few spaces left on Thursday. VIP tickets to the Spyker F1 team garage are now confirmed and Mika will be there for his first drive around Silverstone in a Ferrari!
All in all sounds a good trip![;)]

's no good posting suggestions of spending £250 on the 944 forum, especially when it is something we can do for free. We's the boys what likes value for money. [;)]

Thanks for the invite none the less Clive. I must say that I found the F1 testing fascinating.....for about 10 minutes. The speed of an F1 car is something you can't comprehend on the TV. However, once you have the hang of the speed and the noise, the best part of the day is chatting with old chums, kicking tyres and having a laugh.

Ah....see wht ive just found on Silverstones website !
http://www.silverstone.co.uk/html/ra_f1test.php

What's more with tickets priced at just £10, you'll never have a more affordable occasion to feel the full force of F1 cars running in anger.

I think I'd rather boil my bum than pay to watch F1 practice again.

We went to the practice last year and, yes it was loud, but it didn't work for me.

Much better 944 drivers company on the day. You either like it or not. I didn't.

[:D] [:D] [:D]

£10!!!!!![]

Perhaps I'll just go and have a chat with Alan at "The Rollers of Truth" then see you guys for lunch.

I'll not be paying £10 for 10 minutes of entertainment...for that sort of money I'd want to be in the car.

I've been going to these free test days for over 10 years, I always wondered when they would finally start charging

I'll not be going again [:(]

See you at the ACE [:)]
