FAN problems !!!!

Around your distributor area there will be a vent bolt. It appears to be slightly different between models but on a turbo it is a bolt. Once you fill the system by the expantion tank you run the engine till it's war. You then carefully unscrew the bolt until it is vented - a bit like bleeding your radiator. You have to run the engine for a while to allow pressure to build inthe system and for any air bubbles to work their way round to the highest point of the system so it can escape when you vent the system.

it helps to have the heater on to include the water in the heater and with the car facing uphill to get the rad up

hi all, had a good long look today and popped the fuse back in, the whirring air noise began again although the actual fan was'nt spinning...mmmmmm!! could this still be the thermo switch?? or something else......
Well don't stick your fingers in the fan to give it a spin .!
Sounds like the fan has come off the motor spindle ? make sure you are not hearing the heater fan as they are always on on a low setting when the ignition is switched on.Why don't you run it into your local garage for them to have a look. Won't cost anything for an opinion and the job ai'nt rocket -science

Thanks xenon,

Would it be correct to assume that on a cold day at a constant 70 MPH on the motorway that the engine temperature would settle down to around 83' ?

I guess something like that. If I drive along and stop the fans aren't spinning but they will come on within 30 seconds of the car being idle, assuming it has reached operating temperature. I guess with the 'proper' thermo-switch it would idle a while longer.
