Fee to join 928 register?

I only joined PCGB at the Hedingham Classics meeting this year, and I assumed that membership of the club automatically gave me entry to the 928 register as well (I own a 1989 S4).

I was very surprised to receive a form and letter from the 928 Register that both seem to say that I need to send a cheque for £12, and 12 first class stamps, with my completed registration form in order to join. I understand that some sort of book comes with registration, but there doesn't seem to be an option to opt out of the book, or the payment, and to just join the register. I haven't sent either the form or cheque, and at present I'm not minded to do so.

Am I correct in my interpretation of the letter, and, if so, do any of the other registers charge for membership?

I can only speak for the 944 Register, but it sounds odd to me. I can't see any way that any register can charge anything for any reason at all!

Membership of the Club is twofold, Region and Register. If anyone is trying to get money out of you for either then it needs investigating. Any correspondance between myself and the Club members is down to me, as I can claim reasonable cost of phone calls and stamps back from the Club.

I'd hate to tread on anyone's toes, but I'd suggest you call Angie at the Club office. She deals with membership and should be able to help. Please both copy me any info and post it here as it would help us all to clear this up!

Welcome to the Club, hopefully this is just a misunderstanding. The Club is entirely run by volunteers and we do sometimes get it wrong....[8|]

Hi Patrick :)

I will speak to David Hemmings (928 Register Secretary) for you, and let you know the answer here and by email asap...

All the best Brett :)

As the previous Register Director I can say with some confidence that this is not the case.

Registers are funded from Club funds and that includes the Register Secretary for postage etc. To ask for stamps is definately NOT US.

You should report this to the current Register Director, Robin Walker c/o Cornbury House or by email to. register@porscheclubgb.com

Edit:
Minor edit - Register Director, not Register Secretary

Hi Patrick :)

I have now spoken to the Register Secretary (David Hemmings) and unfortunately cannot get a satisfactory explanation.....

As suggested by Geoff ,please email The Register Director (Robin Walker) at >>>> register@porscheclubgb.com

He should be able to resolve this to your satisfaction :)

Any other help you need please feel welcome to ask here, we have an excellent technical advisor (Adrian Clarke) who will answer any questions if I cannot help you [:D]

All the best Brett :)

P.S Above reply sent by email as promised.

Surely a hoax by someone who had to pay to get into Ragley?[:D]

But then if 928 owners are stiched up for £15 (£12 + stamps) to join the Register perhaps it is just as well they did get free entry to Ragley.

Welcome to the forum Patrick BTW. It is worth its weight in gold.

And "Respec'" to Brett - it makes a big difference when I can see you sorting things out for someone I've met.

Hi John :)

I doubt that Patrick is winding anyone up as his complaint is too precise :(

Hopefully we can resolve this with the Register Directors assistance :)

And thanks for the compliment ...I usually DO try and help...honest lol [:D]

All the best Brett :)

I've got all the details of this, as has Martin Molyneax, so i'm sure we can sort out what's happened.

I'll let you know - I will try to speak with Robin but the Board might be a little preoccupied at the moment.....[&o]

Hi :)

I bet lol..............[:D]

All the best Brett :)

Perhaps this is more to do with the sale of a 928 'manual' that David (RS) put together and sells of his own accord. The stamps would cover the cost of postage.

This is not pre-requisite to join the register - but it may be a good way to sell the book. Stand to be corrected of course but thats how it looks to me.

here here well said John.

Interesting topic, one of the reasons I left PCGB was the 928 register. I asked David Hemmings for some 928 info , he said I couldn't have it as he was gathering it for his 928 book.I asked PCGB about this (surely info gathered from the 928 register belonged to PCGB ?)& was told NO, it belonged to David Hemmings & that the 928 register was nothing to do with PCGB but was David Hemmings's.
This was 5/6 years ago, it was then free to join the 928 register & you got a list of register 928's/owners/locations (years out of date) & photo copies of 928 magazine articles (illegal to reprint without permission ?)

John

Hi John :)

Still awaiting a reply from HQ about this...will let everyone know the answer when or if I get it :(

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,

I said I'd try and sort this out, and reply as soon as I had an answer.....

I'm perfectly happy to continue to chase it up. If, however, you'd rather post in public that I'm not acheiving anything then i'm happy to let you take over.

As I said, and we agreed, I'll be getting back to you when I've got an answer from the guy who IS ON HOLIDAY!!

No point in posting more negative stuff on an open forum unless you've had the courtesy to check first.....[][][]

Hi :)

Maybe its because my father in law died this weekend....but I am fed up with this bullshit........

The BOARD IS NOT ON HOLIDAY !!!!!!!!!!

They are the ONLY ones who can sort this out...if they WONT ...928 owners deserve to know..........

OK...LETS PUT THIS SIMPLY FOR 928 OWNERS....

DAVID HEMMINGS NEEDS REMOVING FROM HIS POSITION OF 928 REGISTER SECRETARY !!!!!!!!!

THE BOARD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!

Brett ........

PS...NOW REMOVE ME AS MODERATOR IF YOU WISH....FOR TELLING THE TRUTH..I REALLY DONT CARE............
