(Interesting you should ask about the sensors actually - thanks. I changed the outside one - under the bonnet - and it's made the heating much hotter. Or, more accurately, it has meant that to achieve a comfortable cabin temperature you need the dial set about 5 degC cooler than before. It's still slightly unstable - hotter when going slowly, cooler when going quickly, which was what I was trying to cure. I have yet to change the other two sensors tho'- the one in the dash vent and the 'sniffer' one, so I'll make a more full judgement when I have done those. I am wondering whether there is a common deterioration of the sensors with time, and changing one for a new one has pushed it a bit out of kilter with the rest, but this is just a guess. I don't know anything about thermistor resistance curve decay with time but it would surprise me if they did, in which case my theory is wrong ... but the jury is still out 'till I have changed the other two. Thanks for asking.)

That's the trouble - I can now get copious amounts of scorchingly hot air out of the vents at just about any time. Getting warm air is a challenge!
Is it fully hot all the time? That'll be the clip behind the glovebox, less than a £ and easy to do. It breaks easily, and fails to hot rather than cold in case you were in Germany in the depths of winter, where it could be a nightmare to have no hot air.
