Few Problems

I've never noticed 2 speeds on my fan - I have 2 wires from both thermostat and fan so think it must be single speed.
Mine is an '83 so guessing its the same as yours.

Well on that basis (and the fact that we have relatives that live just outside of Leicester) [;)][;)]
- i'm happy that mine is working ok. [:D]

It might be a bit high up the guage, but it's doing as it should.

Thats probably because your thermostat is worn, although still serviceable. With a new 'stat itd almost certainly run hotter, whichs better for the car - but its not an easy job: and not really necessary right now.

Simon

Sorry but I have to take issue with that.

There are two thermostats available dependant on the climate the car is used in . In the UK you want the stat with the lower setting.
If you are supplied with the stat with the higher setting (for colder climates like Sweden etc) your car will run with hotter coolant and the gauge will read half way.

Make sure you ask for the colder lower thermostat which should have your guage at the first white mark under all running conditions.

Many afternarket suppliers like GSF etc will not be aware of the two thermostat tempertature settings and will supply the one with the higher setting.Your Indie will probably fit whatever they are sent by the supplier and will not know about this.

Your engine will then operate at an un necessary high temperature.

If your water temperature stat has two terminals your fan will only have a single speed.

The 944S2 3.0 ltr is fitted with 2x fans as standard as are all turbo cars both of which use the water temperature sensor switch with three terminals giving 2x speeds dependant on engine temperature.

Ps. spoke to indie about belts whining and taking it back on Fri - only fair to let them get it sorted. Bit of a pain being a 140 mile round trip. But good excuse to go for a drive. [:D][:D]

I can only reinforce what others have already said. The belts and bearings should not whine. Whining is an indication that something is wrong and requires immediate attention.
If the belts are done up at two higher tension it will put an increased stress on the waterpump and alternator bearings .

It is extremely common for your waterpump to pack up shortly after new belts are fitted because the belts were done up too tightly. That is why garages recommend that you get a new pump fitted with your belts. That and the fact they make another £500+ replacing the pump[;)]

Personally I'd get the belts checked and re-tightened at a Porsche workshop so you know its done properly using the correct tool. Then send the bill to your Indie.

Has your Indie told you that your belts will need checking /re-tightening after 500 miles ?
