Fifth gear carrera s gen 2

Alan,

OK will see what I can do next time out!!

Hopefully my footage should be a bit easier to watch with the Targa Cam fixed more solidly!!

Just need to sort out a track day now, hopefully I will get some footage of my trip to the Ring when RMA get the event dates finalized.

Also hope to get some video clips of my first use of Launch Control too!!

Nige.

Where's your nearest track? I, like a number around here, am waiting for the 2009 Trackday calendar! Never tried it before but could be fun to try and produce an amateur car review vid, scripted and all that. [:)]

Alan,

We are based up in the Midlands, so as far as local tracks are concerned I have a choice of Silverstone, Donnington or Mallory Park.

I have driven them all before, but never in a 911, mostly in my Caterham Superlight R400 ( my old Caterham now as I have a new R500 ) and my BMW M3 SMG.

I have also done events at MIRA in Warwickshire, Gaydon Test Track, and Bruntingthorpe too. Although they dont come up that often and not all would suit a 911.

Still I suppose we have plenty to go out on though!!

Nige.

Lucky you having such a choice! Down 'ere in Devon have to drive for two hours plus to get to Castle Combe which is my nearest. R500 eh! Now that I would like to have a ride in! Do you have the sequential box? How did you secure the Targa cam btw?

Alan,

Yes I do have the sequential box in my new R500, and the optional launch control too.

I built the car myself as a kit during October and November, but it has been back at Caterham Cars in Dartford now for over a month, awaiting its final completion post build check and SVA registration.

I hope to be able to collect it some time next week, so expect to see some R500 Cam videos in the not too distant future on youtube.

As far as the mount is concerned I have one of these here:

Panavise Suction Mount

Its a great all round mount, as it can also be mounted on bodywork as well as glass, and will even support camcorders too.

I intend to use it mostly on track days with the Caterham, and to get some shots looking through the front suspension and rear facing video too.

I'd be up for that![:D] Perhaps the 997 register might be interested in producing a vid?
The idea was muted about for a Club video a while back...

I personally don't have any interest in doing a video, however I'd happily support those that would have the interest.
I feel it would be one of those things you watch just the once and if a club video, you'd scan through to your model only..

The idea of it on you tube is a better idea...

True. I'd still be interested in making a, say, 15 min vid on the Gen2 but need someone with the gear and know-how! Maybe when the better weather (well longer days anyway!) come along I'll see if there's anyone else interested.
What did you think of Fifth Gear's short piece then?

I see people criticism of the article, but it did show sports cars- not just Porsche in good light with regards to fuel figures.. not that the buy a sports car for that, just that it showed the general public that Porsche have moved things on with regards to usage.
As enthusiasts I think we see it in a different light and would have preferred to see more on the PDK etc...
