Finally bought a 944

I would, as advised changed the slave cylinder first as its (relatively) easy to get to. The clutch arm is only accessible once the gearbox and clutch cover are off. and that is a BIG job.

Cheers guys, I trust your judgement way above that of any manual, they only strip it and re-build it, you guys have lived and breathed the cars and done the work. Please don't think I was doubting anyones advice, I really appreciate it, I have learned more about the car from these and other postings on this forum than I could have imagined.

I have made a good start on her, stripping and cleaning, seem to have a few issues with the electrics, I checked the wiper linkage and all is in tact but no power to the motor, fuses ok so I think it is a case of a poor earth.

Long way to go yet and no doubt I will be asking for a lot more help soon!!!

Cheers

Geoff

My clutch was the slave cylinder as well (same issue with the pedal going to the floor). Check the carpet in the footwell on the drivers side where the pedals come through. You can usually see evidense that there has been a slow leak in the form of marks/stains on the carpet even if it isn't obvoiusly wet.

Don't worry about a bit of oil burning, it will still go forever!

Regards,

Ben

P.s glad you enjoying your ownership still. Reminds me very much of my first 944 which was a dog but I absolutely loved her!

Not sure if anyone can tell from such a small photo, what wheels are these? I understand they are the cup alloys? they are 17" and look fairly new or recently refurbished.

Yes, that is my car.

Ordered the new slave cylender from GSF today along with a few parts won on ebay, silly niggly little things like the sun visor clips etc, etc.

Is it right the engine is removed from below he car? not that I am planning this just yet, but the way things have gone so far, you never know.

I bought a scrap RX7 Elford Turbo a few years ago and restored it up to A1 condition, then did a CJ7 renegade Jeep, a couple of old motorcycles more recently and now the one I have been looking forward to the most, the 944. problem is, when I restored the other cars, I had a lock-up workshop, unfortunately I don't have this any more an will be doing most of the work in my driveway.

Cheers

Hello Geoff. The engine is removed from the top. Its only the 911's that need to be dropped. Very nice wheels the cup 2's[8D] Fancy a swap with some cup 3's? [:D]

ORIGINAL: swright

No, it's not. Perhaps it could be taken out the top, but the right way to do it is out the bottom.

Geoff.
Stick with it they are worth it when sorted porsch-a-part in Bury stock most bits also along with silly clips and other little odds and sods.
Bought my old one back in December 07 and could not part with it now !
Jim.
