Finally my little project has come to an end!
And I know how some of you guys like to have a peek at other '44 enthusiasts cars - so here's a link to no fewer than 84 of mine!
The only modification I've made being to powder coat the Cam cover and Sproket housing.... the rest is spit and polish!

Sadly she'll be up for sale soon .... as soon as I finish the essay documenting everything that has been done....
...shockingly for less than you can buy a rusty/badly crash repaired, smoking old 911 for on ebay - it's a crime!

No wonderful picturesque backgrounds I'm afraid..... but would you even notice such?

Thanks to those of you have given me a few hints and tips that the Factory Manuals haven't.
....oh and to 'Clarks Garage' of course!

Wow, that is fabulous. [8D]

What did you do to all the pipes, nuts, clips, fuel pressure reg & damper etc under the bonnet - are they yellow anodised?

Thanks chaps! and yes Graham, professionally re-plated to return them to as new (or replaced with new in some cases). And then the more vulnerable items sprayed with Tectyl (which is amber anyhow) to provide as long term protection going forward.

Keep it!

That'll be a great car for someone to buy with the concourse season coming up. Fantastic amount of work.

If you feel you want to do another one to keep practising let me know. [;)]

Thanks chaps - and with 91,000 on the clock, albeit low mileage for age, she's not been kept in cotton wool!
Believe it or not cosmetically it hasn't cost that much at all.... other than time! It helps I guess that it's been in the family for 12 years. The only disappointing part is everything you attend to engine out that you can't see engine in!! It gets a little obsessive!
Oh and Oli... get your eyes tested!! ha ha.....

A firm very local to me - but it is a common service, most larger industrial estates seem to have an electroplaters (well around here anyhow!). Worth checking their minimum charge though, as you can get caught out - if it's any more than £30 make sure you have a fair amount to drop off - not just a few nuts bolts and clips!! Oh and cast items can only be plated the once for some reason, the pressed/stamped stuff however comes out like new!

Electroplating always strikes me as being quite a cheap way of getting a very good improvement for smaller bits, which can rapidly look quite scruffy. I helped a friend rebuild his 928 a few years ago, and he had pretty much everything under the bonnet re-plated with zinc yellow passivate. The improvement was significant.

You can buy small electroplating and anodising kits for about £50 you know, including all the kit, chemicals etc.

I keep wondering what the quality would be like - I'm sure I'll find out at some point!

You can indeed... however, sadly I don't have the space for that arrangement currently (otherwise I would give it a whirl), and also - you'll be amazed how much you can get done for £not much, for example most of what you see in the engine bay pic, including all the headlight linkage cost me £60. That said I would be interested to see what one of these DIY is capable of. A friend has one (from Frosts), but having read the instructions couldn't be bothered with the agro..... anyone tried it?

Nice work Rob, lovely car.

Plating is great but rather addictive. I originally only planned to clean up the parts necessary for an engine re-build. Trouble was they looked so much better than the other grubby bits....

Parts that really benefited functionally were my early style floating callipers - assembly and operation much improved.
