hiya ,,,with our son off to uni, a move to kent and reaching 50 next summer,,
i have decided that in the near future,,it would be a good time to start my search for my 1st 911,,i have no intention of selling my s2 and at the moment i am undecided between a 3.2 coupe or 993 c4,,,i love the shape of the coupe in both models and a supersport would be my 1st choice but not sure if my budget would extend to that,,, people have said i should start with an air-cooled,,any advice much appreciated,,,jasonp

3.2. Carrera 1988-1989 purchase the very best you can afford it will only go up in value

Nice 964 should also be included in the search. Can't go wrong though with a nice 3.2/964/993.
in an ideal world andrew,,a 964 anniversary would be in the garage,,,budget will stretch to a "nice" pre89 and hoping it may stretch to a supersport and wouldnt rule out a 964 but advice i seem to be getting says start with a pre-89 and move other as and when but i must experience a pre 89,,thanks andrew,,love the colour of your 930,,jasonp

what can one say,a 3.2 was and still is the best 911 ever built but please opt for the G50 gear box.
I am a little bias mine is a 88 3.2 targa sport in guards red .the wife or car ?

Bet Jo wasn't looking over your shoulder when you wrote that Paul...if she was, it'll be no more roasties for you!

Jason - I agree the the 3.2 Carrera is the pick and contrary to the opinions of some 'flat earthers', the G50 is vastly superior to the 915 'box. However, your main concern has to be rust - if you find a genuinly rust-free car with a 915 'box, it is infinitly preferable to a G50 showing signs of corrosion because those signs will be the tip of a large iceberg. But when looking, your mantra should be "if I haven't found any rust, I must look harder". Again, contrary to popular belief, they can and DO rust, with a vengance.

I'm going to be lynched now, but if you want an alternative to the 3.2 offering similar usability and performance but with a more 'revvy' engine, take a look at a Carrera 3. I drove a good one last week and it's the only 911 I've driven that comes close to my 3.2 as the complete 911 package, and in some respects it's (whisper it) better..but admittedly, worse in others. And if it's investment potential you're after, I reckon this one is going to rocket in value as the world hasn't properly woken up to it. Not that you'd ever want to sell either a Carrera 3 or 3.2 Carrera, they are the ultimate iterration of Ferry's 911 design brief and really get under your skin!

Good luck hunting.

Hi Jason. Come down have a spin in my supersport
I prefer the s2 to drive. I've not driven a 933 so can't comment. Greg.

Hi there , not sure what you want to pay for one , but yes the 3.2 is the one to have , they are not cheap though anything from 15k up to 30k , a Supersport will cost you a lot more ,Pistonheads have a Coupe on there web site for 26k and thats a 1986 model

Good luck , good ones are rare

Mike

Quite correct Chris, but she has put me back on The diet but back to the subject buy now prices are rising because demand is leading the market.

thanks chris but has to be a coupe,,have owned my s2 for over five years and never taken the roof out and would more and likely never take the targa roof off so a coupe but i am fickle and fall in love[with cars] very easily lol so not totally discounting a targa but definitly no drop-tops,,,jason p

Jason now you are in a dizz a targa gives you the best of both worlds, dry in the wet and glorious in the sun.
By the way I drive mine all year even in snow.

ohh, a white supersport, looks like my old one, pictures still on the wall of my office !!
