first 993 perhaps

Well the car was sold to a 3rd party whilst it was out for inspection under my order. The 3rd party was told by the dealer that the car was at the specialist, the 3rd party then contacted the specialist to try to gleam info out of them about the car.

At no point was I contacted to say another offer was made, and only when I went to collect the car on sat morning was I told it had been sold.

I know the buyer has at least 1 other porsche, don't know if he's on here or not but in my opinion both he and the dealer are in the wrong.
The only conselation I can take from it is that I cut a better deal so I know he paid more than he had to.

This is the 1st time I've ever dealt with a car dealer and I think it will be the last.

Yeah, it's another example of why they have the second word in the title "car dealer" - but even if they have low business ethics it's odd that they are so stupid - surely the best thing for them to have done was to come back to you and say "I've been offered more, sorry, but I need to take the higher bid, unless you want to big higher?" Would have been a reasonable thing to do and could have potentially made them more money.

Sorry to hear that. But if the dealer's that unscrupulous maybe it's for the best that you didn't do a deal with him.

Good luck with your search, there are plenty of decent 993s out there for sensible money if you're not after a low mileage show car.

thanks for your words of encouragement, I think I'm going to do nothing for a while, maybe at the end of next month I'll have another look about and see how the market is then.

Disgraceful !! pity we can't do a 'name and shame' these days cos this dealer deserves it !! did he repay your costs?

the 1st post already kind of named and shamed.
I have contacted the person who inspected the car and explained the story, he promised to call me back for payment and to date has never replied to me.
he will be paid thought if the dealer hasn't already covered the bill.

car was fitted with a K&N style filter which I would have thought would be a nightmare in a tight bay like a 911 due to heat soak - do these cars run a MAF? If so does the oil from these filters have a negative effect on the mafs like you would find for example on VAG models?

Having looked through your original post "" FYI and for further reference (i.e. when you look at another potential 993 to buy), I think you are right that K&N style filters are not advisable for the reasons you say.

"The standard intake filtration on the 993 is quite efficient and non-restrictive unless major upgrades are being made to the engine, and the air flow sensor can react very badly to oil contamination from those 'sports' air filter elements".
