First dibs on my Turbo now for sale :-[

I think you are best selling with the KW's installed.  You may only get a grand for the KW's on their own (which would be giving them away) but by the time you've paid a few hundred quid to have your M030 stuff re-installed and aligned, you'd only net £700, which is way too cheap to be letting KW go for.  With KW on the car you are saving the buyer of the car the cost and hassle of installation

You can get KW's with fitting and alignment for £1299 from at least one retailer, why would anyone pay a grand for used kit alone ?.

If only [:D], AMD are doing this offer, don't know anything about them but a quick google didn't turn up any nasties, they wouldn't give any discount just on the kit though which is what I'm really looking for, still deciding between Gaz and KW at the moment but a purchase is imminent [:)].

I don't believe for a second that anyone can buy a brand new KWv3 kit and have it fitted and set up for under £1300. If someone has been quoted this or had it done for this price then i'd be interested to see the breakdown to understand how. The cheapest i've seen the kit on its own is about £1300 (and I shopped around alot across several different countries when the £ was at it's strongest when getting mine) and I can't imagine anyone is going to install it for free. Might be different if they know someone in the business and got a knock down price or a used kit something like that or free labour, but even if you did a heath robinson job by simply adjusting the eccentrics or if you were swapping the kit from another one so didn't have to re-index you'd struggle to get it installed for under £1300. Re-indexing the TB's is best part of a 8 - 10Mh job on a car that hasn't had its axel removed recently where you're dealing with siezed nuts, and that's not counting all the other stuff you might uncover whilst you're in there. If anyone can do this for this price then my advice is to get in there quick as they wont be in business for long.

well actually, you can [:D]. RPM are currently doing just that - approx £1150 + VAT with free fitting. However, you correctly state above "fitted and set up". I would imagine the price fitted does not include alignment (which is of course essential), though I do not know for sure. Not getting into the whole re-indexing discussion as it has been gone over ad naueseum and let's just say that opinions differ [;)], and this post is obviously about Paul's Turbo, which has been re-indexed.

I really do think that it should be possible to achieve somewhere in the region of £7.5 to £8k for this car. But, the target market is small - you need to find someone that really does know about 944s and knows how good the KW set up is on these cars. The trouble is that most of those people already own one!

What do you have as an everyday car?
If you have a fair distance to drive to work (say 50 miles) then I would suggest you use it everyday - after all that's what they were built for in the first place, and you already have the best suspension set up for that.

Old Landcruiser 8 miles each way to the railway station via muddy potholed narrow lanes.

the obvious answer is to drive to a different station that's further away but on better roads [;)] [:D]

Well if this is the case i'm gobsmacked. Has anyone actually had this done for this price - the proof of the pudding etc. Quotes are good to win business but are not necessarily what people actually pay in the end. The cheapest I saw the kit on it's own for was £1250 so i'm not sure what RPM are doing - unless prices for the kit have dropped significantly over the past few years.

I'll not comment on the eccentrics thing. Again this was an area I researched alot and came to the conclution there was only one proper way to do it!!

I reckon that for a proper garage to fit the KW kit will take about an hour with a four poster. The rears are only two bolts each! The fronts are only a top mount and two bottom bolts IIRC.

My son (regularly) seems to be messing with or changing the suspension on his car and he can do it in an hour with a trolley jack for the principle of coil overs and either A arms or trailing arms is still the same.

Everything else is extra and over and above so I can easily see how they can fit for the cost of the kit. They are working within their profit margin and assuming the reindexing, rear TB mounts etc etc etc and an all wheel alignment etc is where they will charge normally as they will then have gained the work to do.

Therefore the KW is currently a loss leader in my book and is priced as such due to the credit crunch and the garages necessary turnover/cashflow requirements.

Yes you're potentially right Paul, however if your car has not already been lowered at the rear or sagged for some reason then if you lengthen the rear coil-overs to their maximum length they are not long enough to fit between the bolts, so yo need to re-index to set the correct ride height given you have just added another 500 lb or so of spring force. I'm sure you don't want your car with the rear end jacked up when driving.

The only way I can see you can install by adjustment of the eccentrics is to install the coilovers when the cars weight is on it's wheels, set the length of the rear coilovers using the eccentrics for any small adjustment that might be needed to allow the coilovers to be installed. The problem with this is that the coil-overs will not be sharing the weight of the car and they will be fully extended which means you have no range of movement of the suspension downwards. This was why I was turned off the eccentrics method. In anycase I eventually decided I wanted to upgrade the TB's anyway, also I got a few other jobs done whilst I was in there.

If there is another way then i'm happy to learn about it.

Apparently KW discourage discounting of the list price on their kits, I have spoken to both of the retailers on this thread and neither of them appears to be offering the free fitting as means of generating other work, it's a back handed way to give discount and sell the kit. As I said AMD also include a 4 wheel alignement for £1299, how good this is I don't know, I'm not endorsing them just bringing it to peoples attention. I want to fit the kit myself and let a specialist do the geo, I may fit the rears and see how it feels but I'm resigned to re indexing the torsion bars as I understand it offers the best results.

You are absolutely correct Scott however I am sure that the preferred method is to re-index but I assumed they would simply adjust the eccentric bolts. I am sure on here there are one or two people running about on KW without the TB re-indexing and that it is not entirely necessary but a preferred option for lowering the car.

You can get KW's with fitting and alignment for £1299 from at least one retailer, why would anyone pay a grand for used kit alone ?.

thats a good deal, who from? Does that include the old re indexing?

Yes it does sound a good deal + NO it doesnt include re-indexing.. A job which i continue to mention that DEFINATELY needs doing for the car to not only look correct , but work correctly aswell...
There is one chap that is just going through this very process, [fitting without the lowering],,,i await his response....

He was due to pick it up this weekend I think.

Hi Pauly, Dave, and any others interested members- collected car today. Its like driving a different car-RPM
fitted KWv3 968 castor mounts and got the 4 wheel geometry done plus gave car a good inspection checked brakes
clutch. Overall cost £1800- they have set it up to medium setting for now for me to decide on any changes.
I am going to go to a Silverstone track day probably July14th and they will test it with me and adjust it as we
decide F.O.C.
It turns in much better feels much more planted, has reduced tramlining almost completely and to say the ride
over our potholed roads is better is an understatement- only about 50 miles so far but amazed.
Pauly- will post pics sometime this week- I may have to send to your e-mail as i'm not very computer
minded.
Ride height seems good to me lower than before but not flat on the floor for racing.
Cheers
Ron

It does transform a good car into a great one, in particular the turn in is fantastic but without oversteer tendencies.

Enjoy [:)]

Ron, welcome to the KW club! Glad to hear that your first impressions are good. I would be interested to hear how you get on with messing with your damper settings. I've not touched mine since installation and though generally happy with them I feel a bit of fine tuning might be in order at the rear.

You guys [8|][;)]

Its the first thing I would be doing if I had extra knobs and adjusters to play with (after recording the initial settings first of course).

Nice one Ron, I knew the guys at RPM would see you right. I look forward to hearing more of your findings as you get used to the new setup

Soooo jealous of you KW chaps [&o]
