Just to add my 2penneth - Electric blue looks the biz and makes the dash more modern. The needles have a cool neon appearence.
Darren has some pics on his site if that helps making your decision.

Should start a poll [:D]

And will they have negative mass, thus prividing both light and lightness?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I imagine LEDs score over traditional filament bulbs by not having so many of those heavy watts to cope with [8D][FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Sorry guys, been a bit out of the loop lately.

When I get around to it, I believe my solution will have the equivalent of no mass - i.e The car will be no heavier than it is currently. I may have to tell you my thoughts as it could be some time before I get to trying it out for myself and this way someone could prototype the solution in the mean time.

The idea:-

Halfords Chav Dept do LED strips. you get two strips about 2" long with 3 (or might be 2) LED's encapsulated within each strip.

Do a test to establish the pitch (distance apart) of the LEDs along one strip.

Remove your cubby box and drill three (or 2) holes on the underside of the top, at the front, inside of the mounting flange - if that makes sense. The holes should be approx 4mm dia I think and at the pitch as previously established (obviously)

Mount the LED strip on the outside of the cubby box with either foil tape or silicone, so the LED aline with the holes (obviously) - the silicone should work best if you can get the strip under the cubby box flange.

Run the LED wire to the ashtray light via the cubby box hole and replace the cubby box.

The LEDS should shine through the holes in the top of your cubby box and illuminate the switches below.

I don't know if one strip will be enough, but you have two in the pack. My gut feeling is two will be too bright.

And how is this of zero mass? Well I think the material removed from the top of the cubby box will be sufficient to offset the weight of the LED strip. I might be pushing my luck a little there though.

Go to it boys!

Touche.

so when are you going to butcher your cubby? do Halfrauds do blue glowing furry dice too?

It all sounds wonderful, but as I don't have any buttons in front of the gear shift anymore once I get round to replacing the electric sunroof with manual 924 bits I don't think I'll be the small furry rodent.

And I thought that it was such an exciting solution that you'd want to put some buttons there just so you could illuminate them. [:D]
