FLAT BATTERY - LOCKED 944S2

My battery has gone flat after a while standing in the garage but my 944s2 is locked and the key will not open the doors or boot.

I need to get the bonnet open to charge the battery. I have read some posts which suggested that I may find a release behind the passenger side driving light but I have removed and nothing there. I have also removed the valance as another post suggested it may be clipped to the radiator but nothing there either.

Any ideas how to open an S2 bonnet?

You should be able to open your door with the key , flat battery or not ?

Yes, that's what mine does...just turn the key and it unlocks manually. Once inside it's all down to going in headfirst to disconnect it then hook up a charger (had to do all this a couple of years ago to re install the battery whilst surrounded by rising floodwater so I could move the car to safety!).

I recall some discussion here about a live terminal on the o/s bulkhead under the bonnet for jumpstarting, but I shouldn't think connecting a charger there would be a good idea at all!

Worth getting yourself a trickle charger for the future (best ÂŁ39 I've spent in a long time)....

You mean boot don't you? Not bonnet?
I thought only the pre-85.5 cars had the battery in the front?

The release cable ran around from the right side to the lock on mine. Can't remember the emergency cable...[&o]

Have you tried the passenger side with your key ?
there are jump start points under the bonnet, the live termial has a screw on cover at the drivers side bulkhead in front of the black round vacumn resovoir.

It sounds as if your ignition barrel was changed and the key (s) only fit that barrel, the car keys for the doors etc have not been passed on to subsequent owners.

Try contacting Porsche and see if they have the records for the original keys. If all else fails get a key (s) from them.

Cheers,

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago.

The way to open the boot was to wriggle under the car and connect a battery charger to the live terminal on the back of teh starter motor (it is a direct wire to the battery) and any earth point available. This will give you sufficent power to open the boot.

If like me you have to jack the car up, make sure that you support it before the wriggle!

As above. When youve got enough life into the battery youll then be able to open the rear hatch. Late cars (those with a blue capped jump point under the drivers side of the windscreen) have an electronic rear hatch release; its not mechanically connected to the key.

Why the OP is having the problems he describes I cant understand. The central locking door handle is mechanically similar to the non-CL type: it adds a control wire but turning the key mechanically unlocks the door.....

The car is in gear and parked close to the garage wall. Dont think this will fire the starter motor if it is already a direct link - but just checking?

The wire to the starter motor connects to the back of the solonoid........ otherwise the starter motor would run all the time!!!

Its a big fat black wire that connects to the solonoid with a ring terminal secured by a bolt.

Sounds like you're only option is that written up by Black Magic. Power to the big terminal on the stater motor won't make the motor run as long as the solenoid isn't energised. (Take care to ONLY connect to the big terminal and not to touch the solenoid terminal as well by mistake!)

Once you're in then I'd investigate the door lock situation to find out what's going on there as what you describe isn't 'normal'.

Oli.

Black Magic's solution is the best I think, and would emphasise about only connecting to the thick black wire. maybe best to take it off the starter just to be safe, (ie under car, in gear with power around starter).
Door handles do have a couple of weak links, one metal which stops it working completly and several plastic retaining clips which sometimes dont! Also as it can be fiddly to connect up all of tthe manaul and electric rods and levers here sometimes people dont bother - you only use the blipper!
