FLAT BATTERY - LOCKED 944S2

Ironic, isn't it. Nice chap has nice car and can't get into it when the battery is flat. Miserable low-life car theives never have any trouble getting into a car without the keys, flat battery or not. [:D]

Why is there never a helpful car theif around when you want one? Bit like coppers really ... []

(Martin, hope you get in OK.)

Just an idea, remove the rear quarter window, put your hand inside and lift the lock up? Then your in the car. String the rear window back in when your done.
My doors on the black S2 won't open with no power either!

Worth getting yourself a trickle charger for the future (best £39 I've spent in a long time)....

Try not to use a trickle charger, they wreck batteries, instead use a battery conditioner which cycles and desulphates batteries and recovers deep discharged batteries.

I use an Optimate.

If that doesnt work then cut out the rear quarter light. The rubbers are virtually worthless, so Id expect any breaker to post me one for a fiver. Youll need to take care of the aluminium strip btw: as its this which 'locks' the window in.

ORIGINAL: Hilux

That's what I meant...thought they were the same thing. Anyway, got mine from CSI Airflow and it hasn't wrecked the battery! Just looked at the box and they call it a conditioner...

My 1991 S2 Cabrio has odd lock problems the driver side works on the blip passenger side doesn't, the driver side lock won't work on the key (suspect MK1 Golf handle fitted) so new lock barrel required. Passenger side key works locking/unlocking both doors (suspect button linkage broken?) key also unlocks boot + glove box! those the key fits work with no power! Cabrio has battery in boot F/H under bonnett?
I have purchased an oem door handle c/w with lock barrel from Porsche Colchester having given them the VIN No & it came with a new key blade that does fit all but the drivers door lock!
Only problem now is haven't been able to get the drivers door panel off there seems to be a blind securing scew near the centre of the panel which I can't find - anyone had experiance of S2 cab door trim panels?

Hope you get in ok Mart, Black Magic's solution is sound, trace the thick cable away from starter it should be the one, the solenoid cable is usually thinner! The solenoid is smaller & round sitting on the starter motor usually above & is an electro/mechanical switch which powers the starter carrying high amps.Getting under the car sounds the real challenge?

Anyone know why 944 batteries tend to discharge so quickly while standing up?
Mine has a fairly new bty (March 09) & I needed to jump start after only a couple of weeks after doing nearly 1k miles over previous 6 weeks!

Hi Tony
I would think you have a a problem, possibly the alarm or stereo or boot light staying on.
Have heard of a CD autochanger having its cassette taken out and using the battery totally trying to load a cd!
So a bit of lateral thinking may be required.

I had a random flat battery with a 944 - turned out the ignition switch would sometimes "make" contact even with the key removed. So the passenger compartment fans would flatten the battery (don't forget, they are on all the time - even if the fan speed is set to off...)
If the fans were actually on a fan setting, then the battery would go flat in an hour or two!

hi Tony
chances are if it is in the middle of the door panel the screw you are struggling with it is either one of three under the door pull armrest handle or one holding the interior door unlock pull under cover send me your email address and i will reply to ou exactly how to remove or send number and i will talk you through it

regards
Jason

Discharging battery; it's a drain problem (alarm/radio/something else) or the battery is nearing the end of the road and not holding it's charge.

Now that would not surprise me. The ignition switch is the same as early VW golfs and has nothing positive about its movement. There`s no real detent to each position. The Golf`s have very similar issues.

Finally got in to my S2 tonight. Used the starter motor tip you suggested. Thanks to all for there help and suggestions. Regards a dirty but happy owner. Battery condition to be ordered without delay !!!!!
