fog lights

I had to take my fog lights out today (for reasons I wont go into) but the grey plastic "cups"into which the lamps sit in the bumper (and into which the lamp units are screwed into place) are all cracked, so the lamp units are actually held in place by 2 screws each side, drilled straight into the bumper !

does anyone know if these cups can be bought. Presumably they wouldn't come with the lamp units because they are not something which ordinarily would be replaced. I've been on the Porscheshop webite but I can't find them.

cheers

If it's any help I know others have made a very serviceable repair using the sort of plastic plugs used to attach shelving screws to cavity walls

This is becoming the PCGB equivalent of the SCN Whooshy Dump Valves question or Scoobynet's "Scooby in a lake"![FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Search - somebody (I think Dan) found a supply of new ones but it was covered a few months ago and then linked to about 4 or 5 weeks ago. I forget who supplies them or I would just tell you.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Supply should not be an issue as Club Autosport have the moulds to make as many as we want.

I wish they'd make the moulds of the side plates that John just paid £££s for.

I need one too [:D]

Dave,

Out of interest, do these have screw inserts set in the mouldings like the originals or do you just screw in with self tapping screws ? They'd be a lot cheaper and easier to make if they were like that me thinks[;)]

Also be glad to hear what kind of fit you find them.

i rang club autosport yesterday

they are £30 each, re-moulded in fibreglass

there must be no screw holes as he said you need to get your own self tappers

I think they must "pluck" prices out of the air....
I paid £40 each for mine.[][][][8|][8|]

Ill post up when ive fitted em....Should be soon....

Are you trying to remove them from the front of the vehicle, like you would to change a bulb?

If so, I tried to remove mine last week but could only get half of the fixings out. I've been spraying them with penetrating oil each day this week ready for another go at the weekend. If they still won't budge I'll drill them out rather than go to the expense of an entire new unit!

Maybe somebody here can correct me if I'm wrong, but peering into the threads of the fixings I've removed it looks like they're threaded brass inserts in the plastic so drilling into it looks to be less risky than drilling straight into plastic threads.

Yes, the screws holding the lens to the back plate can corrode so much that when you try to change a bulb there is nothing left to unscrew. They 'can' be drilled out if you're very lucky and then replaced with a self tapper.

The lens can be bought for around £80, but the back plate cannot be bought seperately. If you mess up the backplate you need a new unit at around £180.

Remove your screws regularly and keep them oiled is my advice

That is bad news for me.... One of my foglight bulbs need replaced and I am not relishing the prospect after reading this []...

I was being fussy with a little bit of condensation in mine. Ended up with a much bigger problem [] !

I had to drill mine out and use selection of self tappers. I was able to use new captive nuts in a couple of locations using fine thread screws.

I cured the condensation problem though - my trainers came with a little sachet of silica gel in what looks like a small tea bag - dropped that in behind the reflector and all is good! [:)]

Good luck drilling and mask any glass/paint in close proximity!

Hi
I can only comment for the S2, but I just bought a replacement lens from Frazer Part which was £95, rather than the £250 for the whole unit, which is what your OPC will charge. Clearly cheaper, but not cheap.

I've done it to keep my car looking presentable, but I would happily live without foglights, so I sympathise.

ETA: Just noticed your post says your Lux has an S2 bumper so a bulk discount.

Perhaps a group buy could be in order - I suspect there are plenty of us in the same situation.
