fog lights

The end trims can be bought for between £20 and £30 per lamp: the lenses sell for about £75 minimum upwards...

I have a set of perspex stoneguards on mine, not sure if they are available anymore do a web search, they ran ou at about £30

I covered my lights with clear tape, partly so I wouldn't have to mess around with taping them up on a trackday but also to stop them chipping. It seemed to work as they lasted very well and is a nice cheap solution too.

After losing both of mine, one with a hole and the other with large chip, I fitted the new ones with Amourfend 3M material. Worth considering for about £20 as I think the perspex covers don't look very attractive and AFAIK have been out of production for some time.

Armourfend, a great idea (well any clear film protector for that matter). I shall be investigating further.

These stone gaurds have been NLA for some time. A company in Australia made them...
But as luck would have it,, i have a set "spare"...anybody interested.???

Clear protective tape is a good idea - I have been thinking about it for a while (but in true style not got 'round to it!)

You'd need something that didn't weather, go yellow (or translucent at all) or peel off at reasonable temperature - the covers actually get quite warm with the bulbs on main beam, and this would risk softening the glue if you didn't get something made for the job.

They also have a pretty harsh environment to contend with - driving hard in heavy rain will be akin to jetwashing them continuously.

Does anyone know a suitable material to use? (I think the clear Armourfend yellows with time, which is why it is not used on white cars, and which would rule it out.) 3m Helicopter Tape?

Oli.

ETA: Small holes can be repaired with epoxy resin - which is what I have done with one of mine. Cook the lens in the oven at around 120degC for 10 minutes or so to ensure the resin sets properly hard.

I used the Foliatech stuff bought from Halfords which lasted well (it's still on the lights and is only now looking scruffy after about 8 years or so). There's loads of vendors on ebay selling similar products so I'd be tempted to try some of those now.

To be honest I think they will all yellow slightly with time, but I don't think it's that noticeable on the lights and doesn't seem to affect light output.

The Armourfend material I was supplied is stamped 3M across the backing sheet. I can't remember the guage, but it's thicker than usually used for paint protection. For best fit, it should be applied on a wetted surface with a 'slip' solution and a squeegy to avoid trapping small air bubbles

I'm considering removing my foglight units because a) they must weigh a ton[:D], b) I like the aggresive look you get without them (especially on a black car) and c) sounds like I could get decent moving for them to fund something else. Just wanted to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal? Will the sidelights in the indicator unit be sufficient for the MOT? Thanks

I'm guessing yes. IIRC in the PET - headlights are different for right or left hand drive but the fog/auxiliary lenses are only one part number - so no difference. Key point is that these lights are meant to shine low on the ground vs a long way down the road so there is no issue with cutting off the beam for on-coming traffic.

David - mine did exactly the same at the MOT last Friday. I assumed only the right hand side was supposed to illuminate.

Spooky. Yet to investigate but I did fix the broken central locking. Spent the vast sum of £1.70 at OPC Swindon for the plastic bit that always breaks.

Are you going to Stock Gaylard BH weekend? We're doing Sunday.

Quite possibly we'll be there on Sunday. We have guests that weekend and will need "an outing" for Sunday. Hopefully it'll be sunny.
