After just over 3 years of owning this fabulous car I feel that it may well be time to move on to something different.....
The car is a 1992 964 Carrera RS Lightweight and is finished in guards red with a black standard lightweight recaro SPG interior. The car is LHD, obviously.
Originally I spent ages looking for a suitable car to buy, because I'm not in to the "big mileage is OK" thing - I wanted a car that was very low mileage so it felt like new to drive but I knew I wanted to do a restoration so the car looked like new again as well. I preferred the idea of this to an "original" car with 70000 miles on it!! This car was perfect for me because the paint was faded, there was a poorly fitted rear light box, a poorly aligned door and the front wing was microblistered but certainly there was no damage to any structure and every inspection revealed that other than these minor issues I was looking at a pukka car...chequebook out !
I bought the car in 2003 and subjected it to a £15000 body and mechanics overhaul at messers Autofarm (who incedentally are quite simply superb). This was done to fulfil a dream to own a "new" Carrera RS and certainly taking delivery of the car after completion was a great experience! The car has done around 5000km since this and is in absolutely superb cosmetic and mechanical condition. The Autofarm restoration is fully documented and photographed into a presentation folder along with the actual job notes from the workshop and all the invoices! (££££ but worth it!)
Mechanically the Autofarm works were more extensive than I thought would be needed "" again more expense but again, worth it for the results. The boys went through it with a fine tooth comb - there were new wishbones up front (apparantly the bushes wear and lose that "brand new" feel and can't be changed without replacing the whole thing), a cup bypass, stainless brake hoses, a complete brake overhaul (calipers apparantly seize without use) and all the rubbers, fittings, trims, rear lights, badges - everything - were renewed so she looked like new!!!
Total mileage is now just 49500 km (less than 30K miles!) and is backed up by an excellent service record. There is a fat wad of paperwork documenting the car's history as well as the original German papers that show the car was used for Summer months only. There are servicing invoices, MOT's and lots and lots of other interesting paperwork that verifies the mileage and history.
A £600 mechanical service and pre season checkover has just been carried out by Porsche specialist JMH and the car's first outing of the year was at Oulton recently where it demonstrated its usual incredible dynamic ability. The car has done just 5 track days since the restoration and is rarely used on the road either. (I am not a member of the "cover up your numberplate" brigade at track days and I make no excuses for taking this car on the circuit where it belongs! Frankly anyone who tells you their 964RS has "never been on the track" is either a) lying or b) stupid and I don't think you want to buy a car from a person who fits either category!)
Currently the car is rolling on a set of BBS Magnesium race wheels which I think look beautiful and make the car handle so well. The original Porsche magnesium wheels were restored along with the car and have never been used since but sadly storing them on a concrete floor for three years has spoiled the finish and they could do with being refurbished again if you want them to match the quality of the car! (not so important if you're not going to use them but there we go!)
The car currently wears the registration 911 JU which is not included in the sale. The chassis number is WPOZZZ96ZNS491511.
The price (and I have been offered quite close to this by a prolific RS trader so I know the money is right!) is £36995 ono. For the BBS wheels pictured I want £2000 - (They were close on £4k - OUCH!!)
Anyone interested should contact me, Julian Thompson, on (01625)425809 (day), (07834)387929 (mob) or (01260)222815 (eves) for a chat.
