forum manners

Hi guys

Ok, I'm getting to a stage where I've just about had enough of the bickering, no actually, it's bullying that's going on, on this forum in recent months.
I'm not going to go into naming people, you aren't stupid or blind, you can see for yourselves, however, I will say this. The person who is on the receiving end of this in case you hadn't noticed has greatly toned down his own comments, I would like to think in the name of harmony for the community and yet the other side continue with their attacks which seem to be growing each and every day, some of these coming from long term members of this forum who should know better.
I, therefore, ask that we draw a line on this right now, no more, please. Why the mods have let this continue for so long I have no idea but for me enough is enough. I try to log onto this forum each day but am getting to a point where I wonder why? I don't come here to see conflict, there's plenty of that on the news channels. I come here to share a passion that I thought we all had in common, so let's return to doing that, shall we. If not, I for one shall cease to post here, I have better things to do than read some of the crap that's posted on here of late.

regards

Pete

I can assure you it has generated plenty of discussion between the admin team. We have tried to prevent further disregard for the forum rules by making some posts of our own. The balance of opinion was to keep it under observation. Were it solely down to me some of those threads would have been locked way back!

Hear Hear, well said Pete.

Well written Pete and i have offered constructive criticisims to Roger not name calling or anything like that and with respect,,,
i believe Roger to be a bright man who knows exactly what he is doing and does like to be mischevious,,,,,
yes he has calmed down with his posting and in reality has a lot to offer,,,,,
so in respect to that the spite has to stop because that is very rarely helpful if at all,,,,
lets hope this can be put to bed amicably,,,,,jasonp

Im not sure about 'a lot', but possibly something. Without a doubt though, Roger is the author of his own misfortune. I am less angry than many as I placed Roger on ignore almost straight away, and didn't read the drivel that he posted.

I agree, Pete. Who wants to wake up every day and log in to people throwing snide comments around?

To be fair, there are 6 moderators for this forum area so perhaps that needs looking at? I've been working stupid hours so have been a bit out of the loop, and Alan's correct that this has come up between the admins, but this is a moderated forum and the moderators have to set the tone, deal with "awkward" members, and lock threads if they are getting silly.

I'll try to be more active/proactive, and hopefully the other moderators are all able to do the same. It's a tough line to tread though: one man's "expert" is another man's "cocky idiot". Personally, unless the comments are actually incorrect (you should see the Facebook groups for that! ) I think it's easier to ignore the folls and not reply or inflame them. I know other forum members do rise to the bait, and that just leads to arguments that should be taken off to private mail!

WTF has happened to this forum lately? I have not been coming on here too much lately but, when I do finally get the chance to log in and say hello/catch up, it seems like I have just stepped into a war zone [][8|]! there are a lot of people on here now that seem to be so uptight. There never used to be this amount of arguments. Surely this cant be down to just one member ?.
Hi Paul McNulty. I thought you had jacked this lark in? [:)]

Actually Pete, I just realised that I said virtually the same thing as you just one day earlier but, on another thread. I'm glad you spotted it too. Thought I might be getting soft in my old age [;)]. Obviously not, just don't like bullies.

Hi paul

I'm well aware of the difficulties of running a forum, I used to run one with over 250k members of all ages from 8 to 80 and believe me some people really pushed the limits, I had a large team supporting me so the workload wasn't too bad. My pet hate was when things began to get personal and that's what I was seeing manifest here and so spoke out. I didn't want to and I'm sorry if I upset anyone, but have noted the change in said attacks for which I'm most grateful.

thank you

Pete

Hi Pete - you haven't upset anyone and to be honest I thank you for being so frank about this. As Paul says we have discussed the situation between the Forum Admins and insulting behaviour will not be tolerated.

Also as Paul states, what should be happening on all forum areas is that the Moderators should be the ones in the first instance to step in and prevent the continuing 'bickering' as you put it, but that is clearly not happening. As Admins we need find out just why the Moderators are not responding and this will be my intention over the coming weeks to address.

Since the forum started in January 2002 we have had some very serious issues to deal with and at times its been rather unpleasant, vindictive and personal, giving the ultimate sanction of removing the forum user and assessing their suitability as club members.

We do our best as volunteers and I would ask that if at any time you are concerned about forum manners, please PM the admins asap and it will focus our attention so much sooner.

Thank you.

hear hear..... well said Pete. Sadly its nothing new on this forum

I stopped frequenting this forum many years ago due to the obnoxious actions of a few .

These personal attacks, ridicule ,critisism, abuse and offensive remarks are becoming more and more prevalent .
Like you I come here for the pleasant banter and sharing my passion for these wonderful cars. I enjoy assisting other owners, when I am able to, from my personal knowledge and experiences with the marque . In return I have been bowled over by the generousity and willingness of other members to help me when I have needed it.
Unfortunately this has always been tempered by the few ignorant *$**$£& that seem to take every opportunity to attack others whose opinions or experience doesn't match their own.

If you don't stamp this sort of behaviour out promptly and decisively then it soon enboldens and encourages the trolls/ flamers by lack of consequence.

As a great man once said "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing"

Discussing and acknowledging it (Poor conduct & Rudeness) can only be a good thing.

It's clear that when any subject is being discussed some members comments and contributions are not on the relevant subject but are heavy on throwing personal comments to slag the members car and / or them personally..

This is churlish, unprofessional, low, and simply rude which as some have pointed out the Official Porsche Cub of GB should not be dealing with, this may be suggesting that other sites Need4Speed.com, 0-60 under 5 seconds, and Boosted etc.. are inferior! and just for the chipshop boys.. which I'm not suggesting but surely if any club would be seen as being occupied by professionals adults this would be it.

The forum rules read clear to me, and any one worded replies (Especially) and / or sarcastic personally destructive comments should not only be stamped out by moderators, but also other members. However when one member is joined by another and several others who are also clearly enjoying personally attacking someone it then becomes a Mob and I understand this can be very difficult to Police.

Personally I do try to hop into threads with my moderators hat on if things seem to be getting heated or someone makes a complaint and ask for calm.

Some folk seem to take no notice and to be honest I never really feel there is any back up behind me from the Club when I do which rather inhibits my willingness to do so.

Really Jon? You will always get support from forum Admin where necessary.
Perhaps thats just my misconception then. Have in the past felt that when I have intervened if things are getting heated or there is gratuitous bad language I have been flying solo on the issue.

Generally over the many years I have been on the forum its been a very pleasant place to be compared with others out there and which has only needed the lightest of touches in terms of moderation.

Perhaps that makes it harder to wield the big stick when things do flare up as its so jarring from the norm.

Am content to do so as long as I feel supported.

You are supported! In my time as Forum Admin, which is not as long as some, I have yet to be asked by a mod on any forum for advice or support. Therefore the assumption is that everyone is happy in their role, I guess. Good topic for the conference later this month!

Don't beat yourselves up guys.... this is 2017, and forums have come a long way in the past 5 years.
One issue that is particularly prevailant is something now recognised as a problem, more common but not restricted to kids, juveniles, etc.
Obsessive,Compulsive,Posting Disorder .
All sorts of associated issues with this but can be treated I believe.
Very difficult for forum moderators to recognise at the outset but does become apparent over time.

Forums can become to a certain extent self moderating in so much as people will react. As we all know, using an automotive analogy, you need to recognise the problem and deal with that, rather than
focus on the reaction the problem is causing.
